To be fair, the successors of the grand high assholes of the time seem to be always working tirelessly to bring back the sucky parts with none of the positives.
The Townsends(the 18th century re-enactors/supply shop father and son) got asked the question about would they like to live back then and both said they preferred the living that way on the weekend then returning to modern conveniences.
Part of me thinks post war US 1950-60s was generally pretty nice for most, but certainly not all, people. Average guy could afford house, car and family without needing a 8 year degree.
