Hey everyone. I’ve been agonizing over this the last few days.
First off, people like pics:
I’ve had this leupold mark 4 1.5-5 spr reticle on my long MRP for a few years and it’s great, but I don’t like the 1.5 low end.
The new Trijicon accupower line has a very appealing 1-4 that i’ve been lusting over.
The illumination on the mark 4 has never done it for me, but I like the looks of the new accupower reticle with the 5.56 bdc.
Does anyone out there have experience with the new accupower? I’m not finding a lot of individual experiences out there.
I was able to look through a few of the 1-4 Accupower scopes at the Rockcastle ProAm a few weeks ago and I liked them. My experience was limited to just a few minutes messing around with an optic mounted on someone else’s rifle and unfortunately I wasn’t able to shoot a rifle with the optic mounted on it.
I run a 1-4 accupoint on my 3-gun rifle and the glass in the new 1-4 accupower seemed to be of complarable quality. As far as magnification the low end is as close to a true 1x as the accupoint, which is pretty good. I liked the segmented circle BDC reticle and it looked like strikes a nice balance between being precise and also fast up close, even with the illumination off. I definitely prefer it over the Leupold SPR reticle.
The illumination on the Accupower did seem to be daylight bright, but it’s not as bright as an Aimpoint, Leupold Firedot, or the fiberoptic Trijicon scopes like the Accupower or ACOG. It is bright enough to provide contrast on a sunny afternoon but will wash out if you point the optic towards a bright light source. I think the reticle is well designed enough that this probably wouldn’t be an issue for me, but it might be for some. An aimpoint or Eotech is still probably going to be faster up close.
I really like mine. I was able to hit a 5" plate at 250 with consistency with my SBR. The illumination leaves a bit to be desired, but the BDC reticle has a lot of things that will draw your eyes towards the center dot. I haven’t felt like the lack of illumination was a bad thing yet. I have red BTW.
The eye box is decent; nothing to write home about. I have noticed I have had to be more consistent when shooting from odd angles or prone.
I really like the eye relief stays the same through the magnification range. I haven’t had it out to more than 250 yet, but I doubt I will have problems. I am going shooting again this weekend and I will try to get as far back as I can. I might be able to stretch it to 350 yards or maybe a little farther with some clays on a hill.
Update, it was easy to hit clays at apx 310 yards with the Accupoint. This was with bulk pack IMI193 too and not match grade ammo. It is my primary on my go-to rifle and I have no qualms about it
I took my Accupower out for the second time today and I’m loving this thing so far. It’s on a 6920 in a Larue LT104. If you shoot nose to charging handle, it might be a bit close. I’ve got the scope pushed all the way forward in the mount and it’s mounted one section back from the front of the receiver. If you go Larue, you might check out the LT139. I’ve got the red segmented circle. I’ve only been able to shoot to 200, so I haven’t even used the compensator but I’m going to try to visit another range, probably not until next month. I wouldn’t say that it’s daylight bright, but part of the reason I chose the reticle, is that the circle is thick enough to find pretty easily without it being illuminated. So far if I’ve had enough light to identify a target, I’ve been able to see the circle. At night, 6 or 7 seem to be fine for normal, rural, small city lighting. Indoors my light overpowers the illumination, but again, the reticle is thick enough to easily be picked up. After getting a great zero, the 1/4 MOA adjustments are awesome, I went to the “tactical” bay to work on multiple targets and the like and try some different positions. After a couple hundred rounds, I didn’t feel it to be any slower than running my EoTech. You can tell it’s magnified on 1x, but it’s not extreme and It didn’t strain my eyes. I didn’t have a problem being able to look in and out of the scope between targets or finding the reticle on presentation. I’ve run the battery for about 150 hours now, leaving it on 6 when I’m not using it just to see how long it’ll run.
I’m hoping to get to Austin to try out the BDC. I like the circle, but I kind of wish they’d offered it with a mil reticle because my Speer 55gr GDSPs don’t match up with M193, which is what the BDC is supposed to be calibrated to. When I get a chance to try the BDC, I’ll update.
I replaced the battery at around 490 hours. I kept it on 6. I work nights and it’s my patrol rifle, and I found 6 was a good level for me. Shooting during the day, I don’t use any illumination. The battery wasn’t dead when I replaced it, but when I turned it to 11, it would immediately dim to around level 5. I did get to shoot out to 600yds recently, and the BDC was spot on with M193.
Quite respectable hours you got out of that also it’s nice to note that it appears to dim first instead of just dying with no “warning”. Thanks for the reply, this is now on my short list. With so many options out there it can be overwhelming at times, luckily this place makes research as painless as possible.
I was definitely worried when I saw the battery life advertised only as greater than 31 hours on 11, but mrgunsngear on YouTube said he got 3 weeks out of the battery on 6. So far, it seems to have been a great purchase and I’m loving it.
