Let's talk springs and spring kits....

Ok, so I have this older Colt 1991A1, that I built up 12 years ago, with Ed Brown barrel, grip safety, thumb safety, BoMar rear sight (which required me to remove the series 80 parts ), and most pertinent to this topic, I used a drop in fire control group (skeleton hammer, sear, and disco) from Cylinder and Slide, which, if I recall correctly, was about a rated 3.5-4.5 lb pull, and might have came with a leaf spring and hammer spring.

Now to my question. I am looking to do a tune up on this gun, and simplify it a little. I found my old 1911 parts box, and it is FULL of springs and opened packages of Wolff springs and spring kits. So, I have no idea what is in there now, as far as the leaf spring, main (hammer) spring, action spring, etc. I have been out of the 1911 game for more than 10 years, so I need some help here.

Is there a decent spring package that I can buy, that will function properly with hard ball, and with properly with, and not damage, my C&S fire control group? What specific weights do you guys suggest for the hammer spring and action spring, for this setup? A good leaf spring that works without tweaking it?

I don’t care if the trigger pull gets increased a bit, I just want it reliable, with no hammer following the slide (had one of those a couple days ago, on an empty test run ). In fact, the trigger feels too light as it is right now, maybe due to my extensive Glock training, the past decade. TIA

I like to run original weight springs in my 1911s.
I use G.I. spec mags and (mostly) WWB 230 grain FMJ.
As long as your mags are in good shape and your chamber is big enough for the ammo, it’ll run like this.

-mainspring: 23lbs
-recoil: 16lbs
-firing pin: Wolff supplied with the recoil spring
-sear: factory Colt of Wolff
-plunger: factory Colt or Wolff
-magazine: 9 1/2lbs

Hammer 19 lb, (which is probably the iductry standard for a trigger job) and 23 being the factory.
Leaf Spring Colt or Wolff
Recoil Spring 18.5 with an extended ejector, 16.0 without
Factory Colt Plunger Tube Assembly
Tuned Mag Release Spring

Leaf (Trigger/Sear/Grip Safety) springs seldon wear out from what I gather. I built a few pistols with Wolff which were fine but lately have been using the Colts. They are generally good for duty out of the package but might need alittle tweeking.

You can order a 1911 Government Spring Pack from Wolff direct and ask to change to a 19.0 mainspring and whatever (16 or 18.5) recoil spring for a nominal fee.

Why did they have to remove the series 80 parts? If it was a timing issue, try a Colt Gold Cup Firing Pin Safety Plunger Lever available from the Colt Custom Shop web site and see if that relieves the timing issue with alittle more trigger overtravel.
