Thanks. I’ll have to try them out. I love coffee too. I actually worked at two different Starbucks locations here in NOVA before I joined the military. I hadn’t really drank coffee before then, but they got me hooked. I actually used to use the french press quite a bit, both at work and at home. Now I’m so busy with my current job, and my 18 month old daughter, that I’ve been reduced to having to use my wife’s Keurig machine in the morning. Some of the K-cup flavors are actually pretty good, I’m not gonna lie. But it’s obviously not the same as the real deal. I bring Starbucks instants with me as well when I’m out and about, and those are pretty decent too. I like Dunkin Donuts coffee alot too. On average I drink two cups of coffee per day. If I’m working through the night I drink quite a bit more. I always take it black. I’m not really sure of any negative effects in the amount of coffee that I drink, but it definately helps me get through the day.

I’ll be honest i’m a coffee noob. I only started drinking it a couple of years ago (when i started hunting…keeps you warm and awake). As of now i use folgers singles…

But, Mr. Brink you have inspired me to go for the good stuff!!!

Baby steps.

Perhaps get some decent local coffee ground up and use a decent drip coffee maker, although a personal sized French press will actual cost less and make better coffee BTW.

I have an Aero Press, kind of like an inverted french press, love it for making my morning cup of coffee.

Waz that look like? Can’t picture and inverted FP.

I have had mine for about a year and a half now, the plastic in the chamber has become stained from the coffee but it still works great, after I used up the paper filters that came with it i bought a stainless steel filter and its been working great too, easy clean up.

I would like to see the aeropress made in glass or metal though, I do have some thoughts about leaching of plastic into the coffee, not that I can taste it or anything.

Ive been using a french press for about 10 years.

Id also recommend using filtered water. Depending on your source water (tap, well, whatever) it can really change the flavor (sometimes good sometimes bad). Our water tastes like it came straight from a pool. When I take a shower it just stinks to high heaven of chlorine. So I use RODI filtered water since I have to make water for my fish tanks anyways with it. Our water is so bad it will kill a fish in under 2 minutes if not treated. If all you drink is 1-2 cups a day you can even just get gallon bottles of distilled or drinking water. Distilled should be 100% water. Drinking water should have the chemicals removed but added minerals for taste.

Grinding whole bean just before brewing is good. Pre ground coffee will lose a lot of flavor.

Foldgers and other like brands are junk. It may be called coffee but has little resemblance to better brands.

Another good way to make it is to buy one of the drip maker wire mesh filters. Get the water in a pot hot enough to bubble and steam (not boil). Put the coffee directly in the pot. Wait a few minutes, put the wire mesh filter over a cup, and then pour the pot into the cup.

I also like hot tea occasionally especially when I make asian food.

Interesting, thanx.

The Budweiser /DPMS/American cheese of coffee…

I love coffee. back at my house i used a drip pot a lot but used my moka pot at work all the time. Some times the french press would go with me. I have since cut my coffee drinking down by a lot. since im leaving for boot camp soon and i know im hooked bad on it. headaches and such. im down to about a 1/2-1 cup per day from a pot before. i use to work at a hotel so i drank coffee all day that was roasted by a local company. it was good. even if it was the eco bulk blend, still better then most big brands. 8oclock is by every day stand by. when im setteld in i plan on picking up this drip up

fixed it for u:D

My wife used to work for starbucks and she has been telling me I need to try out a french press for better taste.

Is there a particular way you prefer to grind the coffee, coarse vs fine to work best in that type of press?

Medium works for me. If its too fine too much soot gets through and causes a silty feeling. The strength can be metered by how long you leave the water in the press before seperating the grinds from the coffee (liquid type) not by the grind size.

I dont drink…coffee. My wife on the other hand has a Bunn coffeemaker going all day. I buy her Starbucks beans and have them ground for the Bunn, she thinks I do that special, it was just cheaper. I’m not going to let her think any different.

Because Budweiser’s so much better. :D:rolleyes::smiley:

Course to medium is best, as fine will clog up your screen and or get past screen leaving a thick silt on bottom of mug.

Roast your own from Sweet Marias, or CCM Coffee. I roast in an old Gen 1 Poppery Hot Air popcorn maker. Grind it in a decent grinder, and french press it. I personally like to use too fine a grind for the french press, as I enjoy the coffee powder at the bottom after the coffee is gone. Tastes like semi-sweet chocolate to me.

One cup always does me right an hour before lifting or jiu jitsu practice in the morning keeps ya regular and wakes you up enough to focus

med is a good start, u can go smaller but then u get more sluge in yer cup. You want to use a real grinder not a 10$ walmart special. use a burr gridner over a spining blade. it will giver u a better flavor. its becuse of how it cuts the beans. its a even cut not a smash them up in random cuts
