This is getting less coverage then I’d expect. If half of it is accurate, it’s really terrible event. It’s so bad, I’m left with feeling there’s more to it. What would posses those LEOs , in these modern times no less, do to that? I’m usually the guy defending LE here but WTF did i just read?

It’s not just the damage they did to those two dudes who didn’t earn it, it’s the damage it does to LEOs and danger it puts them, and by default civilians, they are in due to that type of behavior. That should piss off any LEO as much as it does any non LEO as it’s just bad all around. They should die in prison.
Another one of those things where eliminating exemptions and immunities while applying RICO laws against all the parties running such shows would have stopped the gateway crimes years before they shot the dude in the mouth.
Departments that pay super low wages attract super low quality applicants. I am NOT saying that these cops would have suddenly been angels if they were paid a decent wage, but I am saying that if the department paid decently, they would have had a better pool of applicants.
There is no room for dirty cops. No one is perfect, and I understand making mistakes in police work, but the above incident was not a matter of making an innocent mistake. I’ve run into my share of crappy cops, both in uniform, and out.
My last thought on this is along these lines… How do we end up with a national police force? At what point does Biden or whomever decide that each city, town or county must have a certain amount of police per thousand occupants? Of course the Feds help out with funding to get a “minimum living wage” for officers, and with that subsidy the Feds now have a controlling part of LE in the USA. Far fetched, or will excuses like the above incident be used to aid in feds taking control?
The guys who were “victims” were probably turds, but that doesn’t change the way the game has to be played. I would really like to know if there was a personal issue/ grudge somewhere within this travesty.
Agree on their outcome, and life in solitary is a long time in a 6x8 concrete box.
Seems like it was known within the agencies involved and none of the others intervened.
I do realize one or more le made death threats against certain other le to stick to the cover story. That really should have lead to the ones issuing the threat getting shot in the face, but it would seem reasonable to suspect that not happening indicates other le not on scene would have carried out the threat later.
That was my assumption, and i was thinking along the lines of them going there to rip off a couple of dealers and such, but apparently, it all started with a neighbor calling one of the LEOs complaining about some black guys renting the house next door and they didn’t like it. If accurate, that’s really taken it to another level of bad. It makes Mississippi sounds like the racist chit hole state it’s famous for. I hope it’s not true, and it was chit bag LEOs doing bad things to criminals types, but that’s not the current story at least:

Those idiots were allowed to function without adequate oversight, supervision. We had a similar mess in IL about 10 years ago. No sex toys involved, but evidence was planted. Cops involved got 20+ years.
Cop jobs need to pay well enough to attract reasonably intelligent candidates. The nationwide manpower shortage in LE make it very difficult to get a day off. It sucked being the senior guy on my shift and having to work holidays. Quality of life was not good. The profession needs to be improved in ways that dont just involve money.
I retired a year ago and left the profession very worried about the quality of applicant. The liberal legislators in IL and elsewhere have created an environment were no one in their right mind would want to spend their lives in law enforcement. I’m glad my sons have other plans.
The events discussed in this thread are an extreme example of illegal, immoral, and stupid behavior. The idiots involved are gold medal winners in the Police Stupidity Olympics.
Get ready for more stupidity. Some of the new cops I worked with could barely have a conversation with a human. They could not make decisions independently and complained like children at every opportunity. The process of establishing probable cause, making an arrest, typing a report and testifying was far beyond their abilities. Many were Incapable of accepting constructive criticism, were always right and could not shoot worth a shit. These are our future Sgts, Lt and Chiefs.
I can’t find Rankin County/Richland pay scales online, but similar incidents with lack of pay coming up have typically shown the le involved to have a base salary in the lower to middle of the middle income range and much more than the average per capita.
Intelligence didn’t seem to be an issue, at least not some level of mental retardation where they were unaware of exactly what they were doing as shown by trying to cover it up. What was inadequate was accountability which was absent on the team and(this far) apparently most everyone at the SO, likely the pd, and various judges and prosecutors who have been condoning or supporting.
The party was being supervised as evidenced by a lieutenant and chief investigator being on scene.
I have known a lot of people who didn’t have much money and maybe weren’t Mensa candidates that the pay scale would have likely been a major financial boost to their lifestyle except they wouldn’t get the job due to not engaging in the desired behavior due to ethics and honest. Looking at the economy and people if Mississippi I am sure there are loads of decent people who could more than perform the promised advertised claims of the job(and it would be a financial windfall fir them), but want nothing to do with the under delivered product those making the bogus claims actually plan to produce.
I’m not sure good cops can be paid enough to arrest criminals over and over again just to see them released and not prosecuted for the crimes they commit. Hiring for a job with limited job satisfaction seems to me attracts lower quality people satisfied with digging a hole just to fill it back up. The problem starts at the top.
Since they are obviously big fans of folks of African descent I would suggest dropping them off on North Sentinel Island, without clothes, but with the rubber dick.
