I am a deputy in a rural county. Just wondering what your plate carrier for active shooter, high risk, shots call etc weighs in at loaded out.
I try to keep mine simple as possible.

It’s comfortable, but I wish I could cut some more weight. I’ve seen some 3.5 lb level IV plates, but they are $500 each. I don’t make firefighter money, so I can’t afford them. My el cheapo solution has been to work out in my plate carrier so I’m used to the extra weight.
I’ve worn it on a few calls for 1hr plus, and it wasn’t too bad. I wouldn’t want to hunt someone over rough terrain in it.
I’m guessing mine is around 15lbs or so. It’s a basic Blackwater carrier (cheap on closeout, I’m thrifty), two Protech poly III plates (unused SWAT plates, fairly light), four GI 30rd mags and a dump pouch. I need to add a small med/blowout kit but that’s about it. It’s going over my uniform quickly and mobility is important.
Mine is a mid weight carrier at about 15 to 20 lbs, with two spare pistol mag, two spare rifle mags, and a trauma kit on it. It’s minimalist if and simplistic, as it is only deployed in those type of situations you mentioned.
My active shooter rig is similar, plates in a May Flower carrier, 3pmags, blow out kit, sure fire E2D, and flex cuffs. Pretty much nothing I would take away and it still feels heavy. My department would throw a fit if I ever deployed in it so I haven’t worn it, but I figure its only a written which doesn’t matter to me when in an active shooter scenario.
^^Really?^^ That’s a shame. We encourage officers to carry PC’s for high risk calls. We’ve done group orders and we also keep several basic PC’s out on patrol in a supervisor vehicle. It hasn’t always been this way. Don’t give up on making changes
Thanks, my large AZ agency thanks to the new chief also just reverted back to dress uniforms and leather gear. In the past we were authorized to wear bdu’s, web gear and outer vests. It sucks.
That’s fucked up. It’s always someone who sits in a warm or a/c office behind a desk not pushing a car that makes dumbass decisions.
When our new sheriff was sworn in, there was a rumor we’d be going from black BDU type uniforms to traditional tan/green and back to basket weave instead of nylon.
Talk about panic. Never happened but talk about scared for a bit.
Mine is about 18 or 19. Tyr Tactical BPC, 3 30 round pmags. Looking for some lighter daily wear plates now though as my department just went to outer carriers and my rifle plates don’t work well with the outer vest, plus the weight of ceramic is a bit much if I have to roll around with a suspect.
