legal barrel length questions...

Ok guys

16" is the legal barrel length… and anything shorter is a SBR.

But I have a few questions
I such states like NY “post ban and pre ban” still exist… You cant purchase a post ban with “flash suppressor” you get a PINNED 16" with a muzzle break.

Is the 16" barrel met WITH the Pinned Muzzle break?

Are the Preban 14.5” barrel with a 1.5" non-pinned with flash suppressor? Or is the barrel 16" with a 1.5" Flash suppressor. equaling 17.5"??

And Finally …HOW do you… and what is the most accurate way to measure a barrel.
TIA

The non-NFA 14.5" barrels that are available come with a pinned flash supressor. If you contact one of the many smiths who are into the AR business, they can pin ANY muzzle break or NY compliant barrel device. They might even be able to make a custom one for you, for a nominal fee.

Barrel length is always measured from the firing pin with the action closed.

ETA: Any device that is permanently attached, such as “pinned” becomes part of the barrel and is part of the barrel length.
