LEFTY Remington 700 SPS-V

Being one of those odd-ball left handed fellows, I was excited to see Remington offering a heavy contour barrel .308 in lefty configuration from the factory - 700 SPS Varmint. Since most of my long guns are hunting rifles that would beat you to death while launching 30 rounds in one sitting, I figured this heavy monster would fit the bill. I know they have been out for a year or more, but I’ve just recently got the hankering for a ‘precision rifle’ that would more or less be a fun gun at the range. Although, it may also see an occasional trip to my hunting property for those pesky wild hog ‘varmints’.

Well, I just got all of the parts and pieces together and was quite pleased with how it performed. Here are the basic specs of what I cobbled together:

Remington 700, Left Hand SPS Varmint .308 (must be some big varmints)
H-S Precision Pro Series Varmint stock - Lefty of course
Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14x50 - target turrets
EGW 0 MOA base and rings
Harris BRM bipod
Tac Ops stock pack
TAB Gear sling
and probably some stuff I forgot about… oh, case of Federal Gold Medal Match!

I’ve hunted all my life, taken pistol and carbine classes, but have absolutely no formal long gun training. The fact that I could get four bullet holes touching at 100 yards just made my day. Also, it was my first time ever shooting at 200 yards and that was a lot of fun. A trip to the 700 yard range is certainly in my future.

As for my initial impressions of the rifle… The factory plastic injection molded stock was immediately replaced with an H-S precision stock which has full length aluminum bedding block, free floated barrel channel, and feels MUCH more sturdy. Also, the new X-Mark Pro trigger from the factory actually feels pretty good. Otherwise, I’m still feeling out the setup.

On to the pics. Any comments are welcome, but I was just wanting to show off my new boomstick. :neo:

Good times!

100 yard target - five shots

200 yard target - ten shots - first shot low wasn’t adjusted. The heat and mirage was pretty rough at this point in the day as well!

Sweet rifle, i have the same one (also in LH). They definitely seem to be moa or better out of the box. Had it about a year now and its sitting in a mcm A3, but it needs a new scope bad.

I got bored with the tacticool black and took a few cans of good ole Krylon to the stock… Also had AZ Precision tack on his ‘marksman’ bolt knob. Very nice work and one day turnaround time.

Looking forward to my first ‘long range’ shoot/match this upcoming weekend that goes out to 600 yards.
