All I have ever run was an EoTech 522. However I have been not entirely happy with absolute co-witness. So I have been considering an Aimpoint. Anything between a T1 to a CompM2 and everything in between. Today I got to look through my brother in law’s M2. I noticed what to me was an immediate problem. With the rifle shouldered on my left side, when I had both eyes open I found that a large part of my field of view was taken up by the battery tube on the right hand side of the M2.
So to my fellow left eyed dominant shooters how do you deal with this? Do you ignore it or did you find it to be so distracting that you went with an H1 or T1 or EoTech?
Over time, your brain will get used to it and it will most likely not be an issue.
Just curious though…you mention you were not happy with the absolute co-witness with the EOTech. Why does that factor into you considering an Aimpoint?
FWIW i am left eye dominant, but i am right handed making me cross-eye dominant. I just use my right eye when i shoot… it gets tired quicker, but it’s also the only way i know to shoot. not to mention when i tried to shoot left handed i felt like a retard, i can’t even eat cereal with my left hand, the only thing that i have any type of dexterity with my left hand is picking my nose…
I am ambidexterous, I shoot about 1/3 of the time from my left side, and I am right-eye dominant.
I shoot 1x optics about the same from either shoulder. Some have problems at first, but blinking the non-aiming eye will help the brain “switch” to the important image.
Frankly, if you have already spent the money on an Eo, I would advise just getting a riser and trying it out with a lower 1/3 cowitness. I do personally prefer Aimpoints over EoTechs, but that’s a lot of chedder if you haven’t absolutely decided that you prefer one or the other.
I am cross eye dominant, left eye, and right handed. I find that running the optic placed as far forwards as possible is easier. With both eyes open I fixate on the target, the red dot superimposes, and everything else is a blur. I could tape over the front of the Aimpoint (personal rifle) or Eotech (work rifle) and have exactly the same sight/target picture.
For the Eotech, I found that a riser is a must have item for a fast cheekweld/sight picture.
