LED for Surefire Millenium

Can I just replace the incandescent bulb that it came with the unit to a LED bulb, which one, if not is there an adapter at a reasonable price that will allow me to do this?

Can you be a little more specific? Surefire Millenium is really vague. Which model do you have? Are you talking about the handheld Millenium lights or weapon lights?

Depending on the light, yes you can. But again I cant advise unless I know which model. If you are not sure, take a picture and post it online.

I’m gonna assume he meant Surefire Millennium weaponlights.

The weaponlights have differing heads, depending on which exact model you have there might be a replacement LED module for the head itself or you might have to swap the entire head.

well there are really only two types of millenium lights. Based off the handheld lights, they boil down to C/P series or M series.

C/P series uses a P60 lamp, in this case there are plenty of LED dropins. Malkoff devices is one of the best. However in the case of the M952 6 volt weapon light, there is a LU60 collar that mates the shock absorbing head to the MH90 body. That LU60 collar is a hair too tight for the Malkoff. it requires a little dremeling.

The easiest thing is to buy a Surefire KX4 LED head and replace the shock absorbing head with the KX4 head. It is a sealed replacement head.

If the OP is talking about a M-series weapon light like the M962, which is a 9 volt system, then no there no LED that you can simply replace for the lamp assembly.

However you can buy a replacement head from a 3rd party. Lumens factory makes the Seraph P7. It is in between the M3 and M6 turbo head in terms of size. But it cranks out 800 lumens of light.

TNVC makes a M3 sized LED head called TX4. It puts out 600 lumens.

Hope that helps.

Sure there is. You can get a LED tower module that puts the LED at the same height as the filament in the bulb for proper focus. With some thermal potting for durability I’m sure they’d be every bit as reliable as an incandescent bulb, if not more reliable.

On another note if you use a Malkoff module or really any other LED module in the ‘shock absorbing’ P60 hosts you need a replacement for the shock absorbing material. It’s good for incandescents but for LEDs all it does is to act as a heat insulator and reduces reliability/lifetime. LEDs need heatsinking like microprocessors do.

Considering that the OP didnt even mention which model light he has, I figure talking about LED towers might be a bit outside their realm.

I was trying to keep things simple. LED towers are not something you can easily buy online. they are custom made. Makoff and TNVC products can be simply purchased via their respective online shops.

Still no clue on what model it is, traded the rifle for some guns, it came with it and the previous owner is clueless on which model it is, here’s a pic hope that aids and thanks for the help guys.

This weaponlight, with its M2 bezel and 6V battery configuration, basically gives you endless options. It is compatible with every P60-style dropin made, most of which run on 6V (two CR123s). You can buy something like a Malkoff M60 or M61, or the Cree module on TNVC’s site, or any other P60 dropin if you want to do some research on your own. Of course, Surefire’s own P60L fits right into it as well but isn’t that kinda boring?

However, there is one thing you need to be aware of which I mentioned earlier. The head of this flashlight has a shock-absorber inside it originally meant to protect the filament of the incandescent bulb from breaking due to recoil. When using an LED module instead of an incandescent lamp assembly this is not only unnecessary, it could lead to reduced reliability and/or longevity.

You need this item (or something equivalent) for running an LED dropin in this head, otherwise Bad Things could happen. I’ve seen photos of a Malkoff M60 that ran in a shotgun-mounted light with this bezel and the optic had dislodged itself from the module. I can’t recall the exact configuration of this light but I can only assume a fitting ring of the above type was not used.

M2 bezels are designed with a shock absorber system that protects incandescent bulbs from recoil. The design is optimized for drop ins with outer springs around the bottom. High performance LED drop ins require maximum contact for heat dissipation and so lack this spring. Without it, the shock absorber in the M2 bezel allows LED drop-ins to lift out of the body during use, breaking electrical contact, causing flickering and other issues.

This fitting ring installs into the metal ring inside the M2 bezel, increasing pressure against the drop in, keeping it in contact with the body.

If you want to spend a lot of money you can buy the brand new Vampire head with switchable visible LED light and IR LED illumination. Of course, if you don’t have NVGs it’s a bit of a waste. Just a heads up that the option exists, a pretty cool item but very spendy.

Actually, as I said earlier, the Malkoff wont work without a little dremeling. The Malkoff is designed around the 6P/C2 surefire. There is just the tiniest bit of material in the LU60 collar that stops the Malkoff from sitting all the way in.

the best option is to buy the SF KX4 head

It will fit and weigh less. plus you dont need a fitting ring

If you want to buy any other dropin, you should just get this

Then sell the M2 style head on CPF market place.

Hope that helps.

Oh if you want some really bright light, you can try this,

You need to order the M2C adapter as well.

THANKS!

For the record I have a Surefire M3 which is a 9 volt system and I have it retrofitted with a KL6 LED head. I am sure that Surefire and other have an option out there.

Nice. I sold my M3 and L6. I had a L6-PP aka Porcupine. I sold it to buy my Kriss Super V. I do have a very nice clone of it.

The KL6 is a bit old tech. Not very bright and not effecient in terms of present day LED options.

TNVC is promising product. I dont have one personally. I went and got the Seraph P7. 800 lumens on 3xCR123. It is one bright SOB haha.
