Leapers UTG MNT-978 QD AK mount

How solid is this mount? I did a search but could not find anything on it? The MNT-973 is attached to the side rail with 3 cap screws which looks a lot better than the light weight steel MNT-978 QD lever. The BP-02 does not look bad either but has not second rail for a light, an interesting feature on the MNT series.

Don’t buy nor even remotely consider Leapers nor UTG. Airsoft Chinese shit. Pure unadulterated shit. No.

Exactly.

Don’t look to CDNN, Cheaper Than Dirt, or Sportsman’s Guide for your gear.

I’ll also throw out there that if this is going to be considered a serious use carbine, then definitely save your pennies for a quality optic and mounting system.

If that means that you have to shoot irons for a while, then shoot irons for a while.

There are only a handful of ways to mount an optic to an AK correctly. Ultimak or US Palm for mounting an optic forward of the rear sight (replacing the gas tube with a solid locked in position unit clamping to the barrel), proper combloc side mounts or the TWS dogleg cover for optics in a more conventional location.

Don’t waste your time with any others, and don’t buy a cheap copy sidemount either.

And buy a good optic.

I guess the BP-02 is OK? I am planning on a Leupold 1.5 x 5 IR for the scope, its supposed to be a serious rifle so I value your input. I have zero AK experience.

Of the Russian mounts, the BP-02 is about as low as you’re going to get.

There’s also the Texas Dogleg mount, which I have no personal experience with, but looks like it might do the trick.

Im no AK guy (not yet anyway) but I would support a M4C member who makes what appears to be a solid product. https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=57468

I would take a carbine class with the rifle over a scope and mount.

I left a message for 96 SS and sent him an email. This looks like a great side mount. I like the texas dogleg idea yet the way it attaches in the back makes me wonder how stable it is. I sent them an email but have not heard back from them. My question is if you open and close their dust cover-optics mount 50 times how much will the zero shift at 100 yards or if you drop the rifle from waist high in the dirt how much will it shift.

There is a Veriforce $90 mount that attaches to the tang, again maybe some POS but I don’t know.

On a related note, what is the M4C verdict on the stuff sold by “Kalinka Optics” as far as mounts and that kind of stuff?

I bought one for my AK. Haven’t tested it to that level of repetition, but so far it holds zero within the margin I can shoot it.

Plain T, can you open and close the dust cover and maintain zero at 100 within 2 inches or so? My mechanical engineering sense is concerned that spring force holds it in place. Thanks for your post.

Depends on the specific item. Bare in mind that Russian optics are at best, 20 years behind the Western optics.

Wow, its looking more and more like the Ultimak forward gas tube mount and an Aimpoint might be a better solution.

It is THE solution.

The Micro T1 or the Comp M4S??? Will the T1 stand up to heat and abuse as well as the bigger aimpoints? They are all about the same price. Can you get the T1 with a 2 MOA dot??

Lots of information and answers to these questions, and more, can be found in the AK knowledge base thread stuck at the top of this page.

Thank you.

I have one on my SAR-1 and it has held up and re-turn to zero when taken on and off
