LAV being treated for cancer

Not sure if/where he has discussed elsewhere, but on his FB page he goes into detail about his situation. He feels it’s likely it came from the many chems he et al exposed to while in Delta:

Best wishes to LAV. Hopefully he pulls through ok and can get back to doing what he loves.

Really hate to hear this and wish him all the best.

Here’s what is posted:

“Ok so it’s time to public ; I was recently diagnosed with follicular lymphoma. I am willing to bet this came from my time in Delta because of the dangerous fumes and toxic chemicals we are exposed to. I say this because I know at least two Delta operators I served with that died from various types of cancer. One was well known as ‘Dalton Fury’ in the book world. I noticed a bump on my left cheek below my left eye awhile back- if you look closely in the Laugo Arms Alien video on my YouTube channel you can spot it. It never got any better, only worse, so after a Covid test ( it came back negative) my new doctor asked about any other issues. I mentioned the bump on my face and he immediately put a series of tests in place to investigate. That is what started the chain of events that led to now - I’m in a Charlotte NC cancer center getting my first chemo. Because of this I have canceled all training classes for the next 7 months ( the projected length of the cancer treatment). The risk of dying from Covid while taking chemo is 20% or 1 in 5. Needless to say traveling was off the table immediately due to the risk of exposure. The good news in all of this is that lymphoma is a very treatable type of cancer with an excellent prognosis. They say I will lose my hair. If so I will embrace that fully and continue filming for my YouTube channel. Unfortunately I will not be able to teach any classes in person for several months - fall 2021 will be the earliest. I appreciate all the well wishers that I know in the industry that have reached out to me to offer support. My wife in particular has really been super supportive thru this process. I’ll keep everyone posted and most likely do a video in regards to my lymphoma in the near future. Thanks to all of you for support over the years and the positive thoughts and prayers on my behalf. I appreciate it more than words can describe. I will absolutely beat this, put it in remission and drive on full speed ahead with all my firearms Industry related endeavors. Stay safe everyone!!”

Wow, this is terrible news. I wish Larry well. The oncologists have lots of tools to treat the various forms of cancer. I have faith that they will put this thing into remission and allow Larry to get back to doing the things that he enjoys and be with his family.

But this is a punch in the gut.

I think I read an article linked from another thread about an old Russian base in Afghanistan that our SOF forces used and people have seen a high rate of cancer related to people who used that site. Interesting if there is a correlation, I know LAV said other Delta guys got cancer too. All that said I’ve never heard LAV say he deployed to afganistan.

I wish him a speedy recovery, he seems very optamistic.

I saw this on his IG page. I’ve taken two classes with Larry and he was an absolutely awesome instructor and person in general.

I am hoping for a speedy recovery for LAV.

Uzbekistan, Karshi-Khanabad Air Base, but yes, many cased of cancer linked to it.

I wonder what if any responsibility the Army will take. Had two friends who served during Nam. One was a pilot and was compensated because he walked by the drums of agent orange stored in the hanger. The other was a grunt who had it sprayed on him more than once in the field. He couldn’t get a dime. It’s hard to lay blame on any one cause of cancer. I do wish Larry the best of outcomes.

follicular lymphoma has a high survival rate, especially if caught early, and is generally a slow moving cancer.

Prayers up!

Larry’s webpage indicated he was in Desert Storm. Remember there were lots of burning of chemicals and fuels during that time. Also remember that our very own Army Chief was in that conflict. He said he flew into a lot of bad fumes in the sky from all the burning. He suffered and passed away from a rare form of sinus cancer. There may be a corrolation.

Rally up and roll on LAV.

Kick cancer’s ass!

Damn this sucks. Prayer out to Larry and his family. Hopefully he beats it down and gets back to work soon.

Good Luck and God Bless Larry.

Beat it like a kettle drum LAV!!! My best wishes for you and yours!

F#*k you cancer !

Prayers for a speedy recovery…

Larry, I heard the news from Vincent Buckles today. We will miss you at the AK class and in Indiana (I was the surgeon in the group last August). I wish you a speedy recovery. IM me if you need anything. Thanks for your dedication and God bless

Cancer picked the wrong guy to go after! He is one tough cookie and I believe he will fight it with everything he has. Best wishes to you LAV. Get well soon.

He’s okay, for now. It’s a form of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, often extremely treatable. Usually extremely treatable. He’s in for rough few months, but he’s strong and should get on the other side okay.

Over the last couple years I’ve had several skin cancer spots removed from my face and ears. The doctor told me that these probably started when I was in my teens (I’m 60 now). He said “If it’s any consolation, it’s better to have cancer on the outside of your body than on the inside”.
