Latest M16A4 clone build

I just finished up my basic M16A4 clone build. The barrel assembly is a Windham Weaponry A2 Government Profile 20in Barrel Kit. The A2 stock from White Oak Armament. The lower is an older PSA Stealth lower I had laying around from another build. Upper receiver and BCG are FN contract. Detachable carrying handle is from a Bushmaster A3 Target that I recently did a project with.

Here is my M16A4 clone family.

Good job. Looks like your A4 collection is coming along quite nicely.

Nice!

Very nice! Where did you locate the FN contract parts?

I bought them from a local man about 2 1/2 years ago. I also bought a FN A2 upper and BCG from him as well. I sold them to a buddy of mine in Jacksonville, FL for his M16A2 clone build.

I would like to play in your gun room for an afternoon! I enjoy your clone threads. Its nice to see the changes/advancements made to the platform over the decades. What other clones do you have in mind?

Sent you a PM Renegade04. Thanks in advance.

Currently, I am working on two other M16A1 clones (late 1967-1970 and 1971 versions). I still want to build a 601, an early XM16E1, and a XM4. I already have the following:

602 (still needs to have some tweaking done to it)
603/XM16E1 (late version)
603/M16A1 (has early no forge code upper assembly and had been rearsenaled)
603/M16A1 (early 1967)
603/M16A1 (1972-1973)
603/M16A1 (1974-1982)
604
605
607
653
723 (early version)
723 (late version)
727
733 A2 Commando
M4 (basic version)
M4 SOPMOD (a few of these)
M16A2
M16A4 (three versions)
Mk12 Mod 0
Mk18 Mod 0
Mk1 Mod 0 (early KAC converted SR-25 match)
Travis Haley Blackwater “Najaf, Iraq” Bushmaster

FYI. I just got back from the range with the A4 clone and my Travis Haley Bushmaster project. The A4 delivered as I knew it would. I had to adjust the elevation and windage just slightly to zero it at 100 yards. It is now good to go.

How do you the that PSA lower? considering one myself but thinking maybe it would be worth it to spring for an Aero precision.
Very cool guns, great job.

Renegade, with that many build under your belt, have you ever thought about writing a “clone cookbook”?

I’m very interested in seeing your 723 clones, any chance you could share with the rest of the class?

The full-size A4 variant is my favorite AR.

Yeah Cmon man, pics? Of it all?

Hate to bring up an old thread, but I just built my M16A4 clone. What mag carrier do you have on the stock? Also, what ACOG is the proper one to use for the clone

My apologies for not catching the request earlier. Here are my two 723 clones.

Early model

Late Model

I believe it is a Specter Gear pouch and sling. I bought these several years ago.

The ACOG used by the Marine Corps on their M16A4s is the TA31RCO-A4CP. Earlier on, it has been reported that some TA01NSN ACOGs were used, but you will find the TA31RC0-A4CP the most widely used. The TA31RCO-A4CP is calibrated for the 20" barrel.

That is a Spec-Ops brand stock pouch (which is no longer produced) that Renegad04 has mounted on the far right A4 clone in his pic.

There were several different brands of pouches used with the A4 over it’s twenty years of front-line service (1997-2017). though one that is still in production is the Specter Gear brand.

As for ACOGs, the earliest used model was the straight TA31-F with red reticle. though this early model had a strange adjuster cap configuration & only showed an NSN# on the side of the body. The TA-01 NSN ACOG was used for a very short time to fill a supply shortage as the original TA31RCO-A4 models came into use. The earliest RCO-A4 ACOGs adjuster cap lanyards were considerably longer than later models & were retained through a hole on the left side of the main body. On all of the military’s A4 ACOGS the RMR tabs around the eyepiece were ground off at the factory, before being duracoated. All commercially available current A4 ACOGs retain these RMR tabs except for the USNM855 A4 ACOG which comes with LT799 mount & has a horseshoe reticle.

Not to hijack this thread, but here’s an old pic of a few of my A4 clones in various states of completion…

This thread makes me miss my A2.

Don’t miss it, build another.

Several years ago, I sold the first A2 I built. I regretted that decision. A few years ago, I built me another. I am not letting it go any time soon.
