Does anyone have a laser on their rifle for practical use? I’ve been thinking about a green lasermax for my HD rifle but I’ve got the notion that lasers are taboo here. Any enlightenment would be appreciated.
Used to have an issued PEQ-15. Never used it much (or saw the need to), slower to bring on target than your sights.
Didn’t have one on deployment (still had the PEQ-2), theorizing here but may have been useful for those nights where its too bright for NVGs due to street lights and a bit dark for the RCO (and of course visible lasers are always great for EOF). For HD I wouldn’t bother.
I have a K-15 on mine and I like it. I dont use it nearly as much as my sights. I also have a lasermax if you would like to buy it. I still have it in the box. Only had it mounted on my rifle for a little bit but replaced it with the K-15. If your intrested PM me.
It’s not lasers that are taboo.
Putting all on one’s dependence on them as your primary aiming setup to the detriment of integral sights or optics is what is taboo. Seems to be a trend to folks newer to shooting; they see lasers and think “How simple!” They’re right, but then lose their minds if their little coherent light emitter goes down, can’t shoot for crap, and end up thinking their gun is a POS, when it’s a traditional “dope behind the gun” issue.
Just be aware that they run out of juice or go down like anything else man-made, so don’t ignore your irons and whatnot.
Same as lasers on a handgun, they are fine and can be very useful, but they are not a substitute for knowing and understanding the uses of iron sights.

My former work gun, had a VITAL 2 IR laser on it. It didn’t get used much, but when you need the ability, its all but indispensable.
My current, has a visible laser, same as above.
Try shooting in SCBA, you’ll be a believer.
Now, for HD, not sure I’d spend the money. Do you envision yourself, shooting from awkward positions, that would prevent a proper cheek weld? a Pro-mask? SCBA? Shield? etc. most likely not, for the cost, I’d buy more ammo.

I’ve got an LD OTAL for my rifle but since it’s a red laser, I can’t use it during the day unless it’s overcast and I’m about 30 to 40 feet away. I need a can and NV to really enjoy it. I’ve thought about picking up a cheap NCstar green laser just to play with. At least then I’d be able to see it.
I’ll throw in my 2 cents. I have a PEQ-15. It’s mainly useful for the IR laser and illuminator (PEQ-15+PVS-14=WIN!), I use the visible laser to zero the PEQ without having to have NODs. In action, I could see using for Escalation of Force. I could also see using it if the fight suddenly went white and I had my NOD down. It might be quicker to quickly switch to the vis laser than raise the NOD and use the optic, though that’s kinda iffy, IMO.
I’d get a laser, because they are cool, if they did something besides slow me down.
