Laser grips--won't hold a zero at all.

Hey guys,

I got to shoot my Laser Grips on my Officers model today. TERRIBLE. The first shot was just a little low and right. I followed up and it was wayyyy left. I tightened down all the screws and shot again. The laser simply won’t hold a zero or anything close. Any ideas? Or is it just time for yet another visit to the post office.

I have two pairs of CT grips and I’ve not had any issues with them holding zero over hundreds of rounds. It did take some time to figure out appropriate offset since the laser beam is low and to the right of bore line. Also, I remember getting surprised by amount of dot wobble at 15+ yards and finding myself snatching the trigger trying to “beat” the wobble. I suggest you give it a bit of time before returning them.

Back both adjustment screws out completely and re-zero. If the grips still won’t maintain zero after that and you’re certain it’s not you, contact Crimson Trace. They’ll get them fixed or repaired, no questions asked.

Generally, when I have issues with zeroing a CTC grip, it’s because my grip screws are loose.

My 1911 came with slim grips, and I used Wilson screws for my CTC grips–absolutely no traction, even with red loctite. Like you, I’d lose zero with every shot. Switched to Sig Sauer screws, more traction but they still loosen up if I remove the grips too much.

I guess, double check those, otherwise, CTC has A++++ customer service :).

Never had an issue with mine on two different 642s.

I’d hit up their customer service, CT is good people.

Yeah, I had a pair on a SIG 229 years ago and they were perfect. That is why I was so suprised. I mean, this wasn’t woble—this was massive shift from one side of the paper to the other. I will back it out, reset, and try again next Sunday.

Nope. These grips are busted. I backed out the screws and rezeroed. The first 3 shots were fine. After that the laser changed it’s point of aim about 10 inches to the left. Oh well, I guess I will be shipping these back to the factory.

While I love CT Lasergrips on J-frames, we have had significant issues with them on service pistols, although the M&P ones seem to work a bit better than some of the other models. In addition, as a company, they have been less than responsive to military and LE customers. See: http://www.10-8forums.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Board=tacticalgear&Number=57987. We currently have a large box of broken Lasergrips…

That is an interesting thread doc! I think the issue with mine is a fluke. Everybody lets out a stinker or two. I am pretty confident they will fix them up.

Called them. I told them what I did but they want me to do the following.

They told me to back out the screws until two or three threads are visable, tap on the diode housing, and then turn them back a 1/4 turn, alternating between the two, until they are zeroed.

Ugh. I will give it a try. I guess I didn’t “tap the diode” before.
