I currently run 7" rails and am looking to change to longer ones . I want to stick with quad rails- not looking for any Keymod or M Lok rails. I be run the Larue rails and like how the feel ( how rails are tucked in and how solid they are ) I’m looking at going to longer larue rails with a lo pro Gas block or the DD lite rail/ RIS Ii’s. I looked at weights, and the difference is negligible- so that is not a concern. I lie the fixed QD loop at the rear of the rail- don’t need/ use one in the front
Are the Larue rails still as solid as they once were ( Ive had mine for quite a while) ? Are there any other better options out there?
Look into Centurion C4 rails. They are lighter and use a better attachment method.
I no longer own any Larue rails, but I have the DD RIS II in both MK18 and 12" lengths. They are solid handguards, but heavy. The Centurion rails, OTOH, are great across the board.
Why not change to longer Larue rails? Granted, they have been out for a LONG time and there are plenty of other options out there now with centurion arms c4 and Daniel defense (newer offerings match the larue profile) being my two picks for quad rail replacement. Are they better than larue rails, guess that’s subjective.
I like RISII for the bottom rail is tucked tighter, better platform to lay gun on. They are the gold standard in strong. Lotta good rails to choose from. I don’t like the ring on the Larue rails
Can’t argue on the ring, i think he needs to develop an update to his rail. Keep the same profile but update the mounting method. Also, I’m surprised he hasn’t released a tube rail yet, something like on his predatar ar series.
I am looking at a longer Larue rails- just searching for other similar options that may have superior features. I think I’m leaning to a one piece rail ( my only other rail exposure has been the KAC RIS ) I like the stability on the single piece. Do the centurion rails lock up as solid as the one piece Larue?
Is there anything wrong with Larue’s ring other then ascetics? I really like my Larue 7" rails, just need something longer. I’m not a Larue fanboy- so will look at similar products that are better. I can’t emphasize the importance of being solid and having having tucked in rails,
Nothing wrong with the larue ring. The very first generation didn’t have the locking anti rotation bolts like it does now. It’s just an old design is all, but it has lasted the test of time. The rail profiles is what I like best. If I was looking at getting a new quad rail I would look at centurion c4 or the DD ris III. i haven’t read a review yet of a c4 coming undone.
The only thing comparable now-a-days to a Larue rail is a boat anchor. They probably are still as solid since I owned one in back in 07’ seeing as how they never changed their design. There are much better designs out there, for quadrails I would look at DD or Centurion.
The RIS II is solid, but I don’t like the two piece design and it’s wide. The Lite Rail III still feels like an I-beam, just shorter than the first Lite Rails. The Lite Rail III I had was so sharp I literally could not handle it without gloves or rail covers.
Larue rails are the best quad rails out there IMO. He doesn’t need to change anything about 'em. They have the best profile and they’re not full of sharp edges. There’s nothing out there with the same strength to weight ratio. What does the ring hurt? Absolutely nothing unless you’re trying to use an old Eotech with a magnifier.
If you want a quad rail they are still fine. The DD Lite is another good one, mine feels very similar to my Larue. That said my newer build has a Troy Alpha and a KeyMod or M-Lok tubular style will probably go on the next.
It’s more than just ‘want a quad rail’. It’s a stout anti rotational attachment that works, and is stronger than ALL the ‘clamp to the barrel nut’ type handguards and rails out there. Daniel Defense, Larue, Geissele, do it as strong as they can. The weight is in the steel parts where they bolt on. Weight where it’s worth it and it’s not that far out toward the muzzle.
I had a Larue 7.0 rail. At one time it was seen by some as the ‘answer’ to the KAC FF RIS. But now they just seem fat.
Went URX. Don’t see myself going back unless it is a Geissele of some kind.
If you go URX 3.1 you can add or remove rails, run it slick, or put on the little pad panels… It feels more comfortable to me
I like the stability of the Larue quad rails- I don’t want to worry about rail sections coming loose- I know it’s a stretch if they are installed properly and loc titled down. I want simplicity and durability. The weight difference between the Larue rails and the newer DD rails is very minor (1-2 oz difference from what I can tell) I just wanted to make sure I hadn’t overlooked any other options before I changed a bunch of rifles over. Thanks for everyone’s input
