Larue LT104 or Bobro?

Just purchased a Vortex viper 1-4x PST and wanted to know what mount u guys are running? I’m looking at the Larue LT104 or the Bobro. What’s better the standard or extended mount?

I have no experience with LaRue mounts, but my Bobro mounts have been great. I have some ADM mounts as well, and while they work just fine, the Bobros are a little nicer.

Been reading a lot over the past 3+ years on this site. The way I interpret multiple threads is that ADM, Bobro, Larue and GDI are the most highly regarded mounts based on comments by a variety of different users. There’s probably at least one-two more that I’m missing.

I started with LaRue and now have H-1, CompC3, Pro, ACOG, Vortex PST and Leupold optics matched to their respective LaRue mounts. I am pleased with their quality, performance (stability/zero repeatability/ease of use) and the fact that LaRue’s ordering, shipping and customer responsiveness has been good in my personal experience.

A general rule of thumb is to try and handle them in person if you have friends who own them, or a LGS that carries them (not sure if any/none are available through this route, however).

Either way, setting aside an hour or two (or more) searching and reading the multiple optics/mount threads on this site may help you make your decision (or, perhaps, further confuse the issue). There are lots of personal preferences, n of 1 great/bad experiences and biases originating from outside issues that make it hard to select the best option for you. Kinda like pistol grips, in a way.

If one doesn’t work out, despite your best due diligence, you can always sell it and start over.

I’ve always used the standard rather than the extended mount as I have no compelling reasons to choose the extended with any of my set-ups.

Bobro all day.
The QD design is leagues adove Larue.

I have yet to see a randomized controlled trial demonstrating the superiority of Larue over a Bobro or vice versa. What I’m saying is that nobody has tested a large sample of these mounts and compared them in real world use. What I would want to see would be ten of each brand (ADM vs. Bobro vs. Larue) and tests carried out on M4 carbines for retention of zero and how well they hold up with use by a USGI grunt. Until that test is performed, everything else is hearsay.

I own three Larue mounts purchased before Bobro caught my attention. They have served me well without any issues. I could care less about my Picatinny rail getting a scratch on it.

Bobro doesn’t mark up my rail and is self adjusting

imho/fwiw:

  • Buy ANY of the Quality named mounts & you’ll be GTG
Seems simple enough, but A LOT is being asked of anything that uses “QUICK” in its attach/detach method for precision repeatability.

Again imho: If I “know” the setup & what it is & isn’t capable of = Im GTG

  • Takes time & rounds down range to familiarize yourself with a setup & how it reacts to “changes”
  • I think everyone that has any type of QD mount should do some testing on paper, record/learn data, & make the determination for themselves. Paper don’t lie

Lt104 all day.

That’s my review, along with the leupold.

Highly recommended, not fanboi or anything, it just works.

I have a1x4 pst in a bobro mount and love it. It rides around it my truck and tractors, and takes a beating and still works as advertised. I have no experience with the larue mounts, considered one but kept coming back to the bobro because of its self adjusting spring system. 8541 tactical has a nice review of the bobro that put it over the top for me.

I have had a few Vortex 1-4’s and I have always preferred them it the extended mount (LT139). I’ve had several other Larue mounts over the years. I bought a scope from a member here and it came with a Bobro. I also have a Bobro for my Aimpoint Pro.

I think they both have their pro’s and cons and I honestly don’t think you can go wrong with either. My Bobro mounts are marking up my rails too, between the slots. I’ve never experienced any of the excessive upper wearing issues Larues seem to be famous for. Bobro’s are great because they are self adjusting, but the lever housing sticks out more when compared to the Larue. I prefer the ring setup and one piece mounts on the Larue’s. If you plan to move the optic between rifles, Bobro - without a doubt.

I think Mark’s polarizing persona has a little to do with some of the bias against his mounts on other forums.
