Larue 6.8 complete rifle?

Did Larue ever make a complete 6.8 rifle? I saw a rifle on consignment from a local shop, LaRue receiver, with a Noveske barrel. Surefire break. Looks like it had a Magpul stock. Asking price was $2200 and looked to be in like new condition. I am not sure if this was a custom project or a Larue stand alone rifle, the salesperson had no idea. I can not find any info from Larue on 6.8 rifles.

I know where you saw that.

No it wasn’t a complete LaRue rifle. It was built for a Marine at Precision Weapons at Quantico using his own parts. It’s very nice. He’s moving to CA and can’t take it with him due to CA laws (he’ll be living off base).

Off the top of my head it has:
LaRue upper and lower receivers.
LaRue rail.
Noveske barrel 6.8SPC barrel.
Magpul AFG, ACS stock, BAD lever, MIAD grip.
JP Trigger.
CQD end plate.
Surefire 6.8 brake.
2 PRI 6.8 mags.

I can’t remember what kind of BCG, CH and gas block.

If I recall correctly, a Larue-based AR15 could be imported into CA provided that a bullet button mag release is installed. This renders the rifle into a “fixed magazine” semi-auto rifle that is permitted per CA’s AWB law. When the rifle is taken out of state, the original magazine release can be re-installed.
Note: I just reviewed the CA DOJ AW ID Guide. Larue is not on the list of named AR15-type “Assault Weapons”.

It could be legally imported to CA if modified. The Marine could also apply to CA DOJ for the appropriate permit for military service members on PCS orders to CA that would allow him to import the rifle for the duration of his duty in CA.

That is an option but I do believe he’s retiring there.

LaRue has never made a 6.8 rifle.

I believe Mark LaRue has posted at least once, something to the effect of “we dont need no stinkin 6.8” or I saw it in a thread. This is what led me to presume LaRue does not have much interest in the 6.8.

Mark did build a very nice custom 6.5 which he used to shoot a nice Elk.

Maybe he will change his mind…

looking around various online ammo retailers, 6.8 ammo still isn’t that common as the old standby 5.56 or 7.62…I am hesitant to pick a 6.8 rifle up just because of uncertainty with supply. Or will supply increase? I don’t handload due to living restrictions so that is out of the question…nor do I have the time to handload :frowning:
