Larry Vickers tells how to set up a carbine

A short interview of Larry Vickers on how he like to set up his carbine. I think some guys may like this.

If you do not care what Larry has to say then do not bother watching.

Thanks,
Ghilly

Straight and narrow I must say.

I cringe every time somebody says “operator” like that.

Funny how the fellow conducting the interview has his rifle already set up like the dd vickers rifle and kind of points to every example lav makes, and man he’s lost alot of weight.

that’s cancer kind of weight loss in my opinion…

Not an illness.

I know, I thought that was funny. He had the Aimpoint Micro, fixed DD front and rear, Surefire X300 at the 12:00 in front of the front sight, even the sling.

Good reccomendations, keeping it simple. Some of the same adviced echoed here on M4 all of the time. That is why I have enjoyed reading and learnig for the last 3 1/2 years. Its good to see it reinforced by and Industry Professional.
Thanks for the vid.

I want an LAV action figure for Christmas… LAV with the Kung Fu Grip!!

… you probably are missing a pretty significant learning opportunity.

I don’t care whether you think Larry is a self-absorbed blowhard or the most vigorously-effective trainer of our generation, Larry knows how to run these guns, and everything he teaches is practical, deliberate and fact-based. My appreciation for Larry falls well short of the messianic, simply because I’m not a “cult of personality” kind of dude; that said, I believe in his methods, and I respect the man. There is no denying that he has earned his voice.

We normally recommend that you take as much training from as many different sources as possible, but if you can only spare the time or expense to immerse yourself in one syllabus, make it Larry’s/VSM-based. His accuracy requirements will humble you, and his relentless focus on the fundamentals will reveal any shortcuts you might have taken along the way, but in the end, you will be a better shooter.

Period.

KISS… No frills top-quality AR with quality RDS, BUIS, Light, Mags and Sling.

Gotta agree with Mr. Vickers.

Kinda funny that gun is even a DD gun.

LAV has been on a tannerite binge lately on TacTV.

It might just be the camera angle or something, but it looks like the other guy continually points his weapon at LV’s feet. I’m sure if that was actually the case, LV would have corrected him.

For those of you talking about the carbine choice in this video as somehow degrading Vickers as someone shamelesslytooting his own horn, you’re making some flawed assumptions; if a person is going to reccomend certain products, is it not logical to have a weapon with those products to point to in the vid? So what if those are the products he is also involved in advertising–these items he reccomends are widely held throughout the community to be the best of the best–why would he reccomend anything less? Would you respect him more if he had a freaking Sigtac light on the carbine in the vid?

And they are apparently both left handed. Too many coincidences, I smell a conspiracy. :jester:

…or Southern Thunder. I’ve noticed that too. It’s pretty funny how he gets all excited about it. This isn’t a put down in anyway, but it reminds me of a Formula 1 driver getting excited about a remote control car.

It’s pretty hard to argue with those recommendations. I prefer a Scout to the X300, but Surefire is the way to go, regardless. I went with the single point sling fad there for a little while a couple years ago but quickly realized that for me, there’s few applications where it’s the best choice. Now, even on my shortest rifles I’m running two points. I run all VCAS.

It is interesting to see all the guys running 16" rifles with heavier optics and other gear using an MS2 at classes or in their YouTube videos. I’m all for using what you like, but sometimes I think we see people doing things because someone else does it, not because it’s the right tool for the job.

Personally, I try not to follow or adhere to one particular way or trainer, but I have noticed that a lot of what Vickers teaches seems to be the best way for ME and my needs. For a while there I started to get caught up in doing things one way, focusing on speed and what almost borders on showy. Then I noticed that many of the other trainers out there, especially those like Howe, Lamb, Vickers, Tiger Swan, etc. (which all have one thing in common) were putting more emphasis on accuracy being key and not trying to reinvent anything. I thought I knew this before, but I guess I got caught up in something different.

Anyway, didn’t mean to go off on that when this is about carbine set up. Thanks for posting!

A NICE gun - especially in person.

Is there any other way to go?

I love Surefire, by far my favorite, but really what else is there?

Surefire controls the market, they have the most flexible and versatile products. Something for everything.

There isnt really any other option, which I believe is the reason for the crazy high pricing.

SolarForce!

I have some SureFire stuff. But I can outfit 3 guns with LEDs for the price of one SureFire.
