now does anyone have any experience with one?
range report maybe?

I’ve been having strange fantasies about owning a Kriss and G21 sidearm…

Sadly, info on the Kriss is spartan at this point.

Usually a civilian semiautomatic only version of a SMG costs more than the full auto version because it deviates from the main production line.

Personally, I don’t see the appeal in owning a $2000 semiautomatic pistol carbine or SBR. If it was full auto maybe, but you’ll never be able to own one unless it is your LE or military service weapon.

They are an interesting design, not sure how well they have been received. There is a shop near me that is a dealer and has two of the carbines for right around $1,800 each. One of them is used too.

For .45 ACP fun I think the HK USC .45 is a more proven option.

there are some excellent youtube vids out now.

one compares it to an mp5.

vector has half the felt recoil and 1/8 the muzzle climb per round fired.

something like 1.2 degrees over the mp5’s 8.5 degrees.

I wasn’t impressed by the one I had at all. I too think the usc .45 would be a better option - and it’s cheaper.

A local shop has one that they have rented out for a month or so, and it is having problems, they said it has to go back to the manufacturer for bolt issues.

Personally, I’d just get a Keltec Sub 2000 that takes Glock 9mm magazines.

Most of the major demos that the Kriss has been a part of it had function problems. Mostly FTE probably due to the recoil mechanism which causes a change in momentum direction, and weakens return velocity and momentum from the opposite motion.

The Russians experimented with a similar design and they scrapped it due to reliabilty problems.

its been out for a while, around $1800 I believe. I wish they would make a 9mm version, they have a .40 S&W version I think. Lot of magazines have reviewed and like the thing. But being that civilians can get semi only, it defeats the main selling point of the gun which is the control ability of automatic firing :frowning:

They have some army contract to try to adapt the recoil system for use on a 50 BMG

A 9mm version that takes G17 mags would be slick. I am not opposed to more pistol caliber carbines on the market

I just purchased one and it arrives on Friday. Going to the range all day on Saturday. I did ask about the issues they were having early on and it has been fixed and it was the earlier models and certain serial numbered rifles were identified.

So since that has been cleared up this rifle looks good to go. I will let you know what I think after I put about 1000 rounds through it. I picked up the shorter holed barrel shroud, a couple 30 round magazines, Eotech, etc. for it.

I will get pictures up as well and right up my review.

We are a Kriss dealer and have one of the semi-autos as a rental gun.

Initially they did have issues and were extremely pick on ammo. I found that Black Hills was the only ammo that would work 100%. They have since replaced the cam bolt thingy and the FTF/FTE issues have stopped.

They are surprisingly accurate and fun to shoot. Felt recoil isn’t bad.

I equate them to a 5.7 upper. A lot of fun, but not a whole lot of practicality.

Everyone that I have talked to that has trigger time on it claim that it has HUGE reliability issues. In fact they all said that their particular agency or dept have sent them all back and canceled all orders for more. This is just second hand info though, so take what you want from it.

Only so many were made so not a lot of people have them let alone are going to pay $1800-$3000 for an SMG. Infact I have seen and heard the opposite. The military is starting to use these with different departments and local PD is as well. Reliability issues have gone away as well due to faulty parts that have been addressed and fixed. Plus any reliability issues from certain serial numbers will be repaired or fixed.

Once the .50 caliber and .40 S&W come out there will more than likely be more popular. I am active duty military and heard from higher ups a couple years ago that this type of weapon (once perfected) will eventually replace the M16, especially for CQC. You got to remember it is 2010 and when did we start using the M16 in battle? Being in the military I love the M16 but a change sometimes comes whether we like it or not.

I am all for change as long as it is a benefit. Change for the sake of change rarely works out well (see the presidency). To say that the military will be switching to this platform or one like it, is a bit much. I could see it being fielded in very limited roles but not widely spread. But even in a CQB role, I dont see the military giving it wide issue. Being military myself, I have seen specialized units like F.A.S.T. transition from sub guns to M4’s for various reasons, and the Kriss addresses none of them. But if a reliable rifle caliber version can be made, rock on I will look forward to it.

Yeah, I didnt believe it either and said “no way” but then I saw the videos of the demos with these higher ups (were talking 0-6 and up) testing these weapons at the ranges and having the walk-thru. I am all for change too if it will benefit us in the field.

I agree with you I see it coming in more of the specialized units but that would include the military, CBP, Border Patrol, etc.

What I want to see is the .50 caliber edition of this weapon.

I am by no means saying that you are wrong, but just because Colonels and Generals are playing with them, doesn’t mean that it will be adopted. Keep in mind that they have been looking at PDW’s for a long time now, with no widespread issue. When you say .50 cal, do you mean .50 A.E. or B.M.G or G.I. or Beowulf or what?

Yeah thats what I thought myself so we will see. Who really knows…

I was talking about this one…

KRISS .50 BMG Development Program: Adaptation of KRISS System technology to a .50 machine gun platform with goals of 90+% reduction in recoil and 50% reduction in weight versus the M2HB platform. Status: Development in cooperation with the US Army ARDEC Picatinny Arsenal
