This is my first post so be easy on me… A firearm that I have always wanted is a Krinkov, my whole life I have loved them and finally have the income to go ahead and build one. This will be my first AK build but I have built ARs before. I know they are completely different but I do have some experience under my belt. I also know that I am going to probably have to go through the SBR process and its something I have wanted to do anyway so thats not a big deal to me. I also know everything I have to do to get it done.
I really want a 5.56 Krinkov and I am willing to do pretty much anything to get my paws on one. I have about $1,200 to spend on this project and was wondering if you guys could point me in the direction of either place where I could buy a prebuilt SBR 5.56 Krinkov or a place where I could buy a high quality parts kit and receiver to send off to an AK builder to have put together?
I have chosen 5.56 because of its availability and manageability. The cheap 5.45 ammo is also corrosive and I dont want to deal with any corrosive ammo, so naturally I am gravitated to the 5.56.
Arsenal has a good reputation. They made a very limited run of factory SBR’s (I think less than 500). This may be the easiest option if you can find one.
I have no first hand experience with Arsenal or Chris. I also have no first hand experience building AK’s, but know enough about it (and my own mechanical limitations) to know that I would much rather let a 'smith do it or buy from the factory than try to do it myself.
Does the Bulgarian beer can flash hider/booster create enough back-pressure on a chopped SLR-106UR to run the gun reliably without opening up the gas port?
I was under the impression it would on one of the midlength AKs, but haven’t heard anything about the shorties.
I passed on one in the 525 range. The last I saw was on Sturmgerwher.com (SP) I believe in the 900 range without receiver. Also check GB Parts, Parts Kits. They are getting quie rare.
I have seen NIB 106UR’s recently sold for as low as $825.00 which is considerably less than I paid for mine when they were first introduced. If you find one that cheap you can probably complete the project for $1,200.00; tax stamp included.
I SBR’d an Arsenal 107UR. It was extremely easy to do after submitting the Form1 and waiting for it’s return. The front site base needs to be pulled and there is a reducer in the gas port that needs to be removed. Re-install and cut/crown the carrel, scew on a flashider and off you go. My smith charged me $50 to remove the plug and cut/crown the barrel. Took it out the next week and ran it through a Tactical Response Fighting Rifle class and it was flawless. 1,200 or so rounds without a hiccup. All in all including tax stamp I wa at $1,150 for mine 2 years ago. A 106 UR should be able to be done as cheap or cheaper today.
Check on AKForums in the Krinkov thread, there may still be Some $750- Tula kits left. If you don’t want to deal with corrosive ammo, buy new production Bear, and that solves that problem too. Then see if you can find a build party in your area on AKForums, that’s what I did. It was a great time and I made some new very talented friends. Barrels are cut so you’ll need to find a regular 74 barrel and have a gunsmit recontour it for you as well.
I bought one a while back and had them build it so it is ready for the SBR process. All I need to do is get the paperwork back and drill out the pin and it’s ready for a booster. (Don’t ask how much cringes) Once in a while it’ll fail to cycle, probably because the gas port is bigger and there’s nothing but a fake can on there at the moment, but they assured me it’d function in tip top shape after the SBR and booster.
