I have a shilen 20" match barrel on my AR15 now. Just never has lived up to my expectations. It shoots well but real picky.
Going to rebarrel it.
Can’t decide between the Kraiger which only comes in .223 so no 5.56 ammo. Probably most accurate though.
or the Shilen ratchet which is the barrel I originally wanted but got impatient waiting for and bought the standard rifling. It has a wilde chamber so 5.56 is still good.
I only use this rifle for precision target shooting so having a .223 chamber would not be a great loss.
I also see that Ranier has their ultra-match which is a shilen ratchet rifling barrel. that is another option.
Looking for opinions especially from those who have either one of these barrels
I have an 18" Rainier Ultramatch SPR (rifle gas) barrel as well as an 18" Ultramatch intermediate gas barrel. They will both consistently shoot .5moa with a few different 69gr and 77gr handloads. I do plan to cut the intermediate down to 16" to rebuild as a Recce type rifle, but I’m kind of hesitant due to how well it shoots now. I highly recommend them.

Call Krieger - they will chamber your bbl in .223 Rem (not a good idea) .223 Wylde or556 Match. These are offered as a standard option for their AR bbls. The Wylde or Match chamberings will shoot anything you stuff in there within reason.
A fully finished chamber, headspaced to your bolt, crowned and timed is only $100. Short money for what they offer.
Unless you are shooting short light weight bullets - do not use the 223 Rem. It has a short throat, read virtually no free bore and a very steep lead angle that causes pressure issues with GI type FMJ bullets. It is a sure fire way to pop primers in an AR.
