Korean AR mags

A neighbor who’s moving out of state gave me these free of charge. They’re unused, still in the wrapper. I’m told that they’re either Korean copies of the HK maritime mag or Daewoo mags, or some such. They’re steel and noticeably heavier than the standard GI aluminum mag.

At any rate, they’ll be used as range mags because I’ve heard that overall reliability is questionable and I have some P-Mags anyway. Still, I couldn’t turn down free stuff. Anyone actually use these with no issues?

Free! That’s my brand.

Most people don’t trust the Glock mags or the FAL mags that come out of Korea. I don’t think you will have any trouble with them as range mags though.

If its for the range, go for it.

they appear to be those Victory copies of the H&K high reliability magazines.

For free training mags I don’t see too many issues. Not a fan of the Korean Glock mags, have a few, use them for range use and have found that they wear a lot faster and are easier beaten up, and reliably is less then acceptable in my book, good for training though.

sell them for 5 bucks a piece.

I’ve used two of those as range mags for the past year or so. They have been reliable for feeding but very unreliable for locking the bolt back. The follower tab isn’t as long as almost any AR15 mag. I believe these are specifically designed for the Daewoo KR2 or whatever it’s called, which is similar to an AR in some ways but very different in others.

Verdict: OK range mags, may provide some malf drills, would not buy any more.

I like free stuff. Hopefully one might not be reliable so it can be a good training mag.

Wow, that looks almost exactly like an HK mag. I posted a pic of one I had for reference, but if it is an exact replica that is just made in Korea then I don’t see why it would be a bad mag. Would you mind posting a pic of the mag follower? I also just found a review that someone had done comparing these korean mags vs the HK ones. check it out here

I got one of the Korean 100 round drums a few months ago for about $110. I couldn’t pass up the deal. I do have the Korean mags for my glock and they work fine. I keep my carry loads in the original mags but have yet to have any problems with the Korean ones that I’ve purchased.

Korean manufacturing is actually pretty good. There are certain 1911 manufacturers that have their frames supplied from Korea.

I got a few when they first came out on the market. I have four or five kicking around here somewhere.

I use them as range magazines. I have not had any issues with them, but a lot of folks reported issues with the bolt hold open feature not working. Aside from this, they’re copies of what is already considered by most to be a mediocre magazine.

The springs are incredibly stiff, very difficult magazines to load. It is physically possible to lock them in on 30 rounds, but takes an unreasonable amount of force. I usually lock the bolt to the rear before I put one in (if it is not locked back already from emptying a prior mag). Tactical reloads aren’t really an option with these. Loading them to 28 rounds helps, but their still very stiff.

I have not experienced any failures with mine yet while actually firing. I would not buy more. I like USGI30s better, and they’re only $7 each.

I’m sure they will function fine. But I sure as heck wouldnt buy them.

Most all Korean mags I have seen and dealt with were trash. I wouldn’t waste my time or money on them.

I bought one of the 100rd drums also after hearing decent reviews… It won’t fit correctly in my DDM4 and had feeding issues. I thought it might have been my rifle so I let my brother try it on his Colt. Same issues.

I own a bunch of the Korean Glock Magazines with 25 being 9mm and 20 .40S&W and they have seen several high round count training events over the last two years.

I use them to save wear and tear on my original Glock Magazines and I can say after numerous cases of cheap training ammo they have been flawless even tho most have serious dings and scratches from hard use but they keep on feeding.

Maybe I just have a good batch but several friends that also use them give positive reviews.

korean mags are better than no mags!
Nothing wrong with some trash can magazines for training.

I see good reps on malfunction clearing drills in your future, which isn’t always a bad thing.

I saw the same KCI mags which were being used by some USMIL personnel that wouldn’t wouldn’t even make it through a magazine before they had failures.

Just doesn’t seem cost effective to me.

I number and track all of my magazines and a few of the harder used KCI’s have over 3000rds fired with no problems so far. But I did buy them in bulk at $6.00 each so if one bites the dust some where down the road I got more then my six bucks out of it.

Plus if any part fails other then the main tube I can always use a Glock part to repair it.

I’M not saying they are better then a OME but the Korean ones I own sure runs like them. And thats good enough to keep the hard use off of my original Glock magazines.
