Does anyone have any experience with smaller than standard sized front sight posts on AR15 pattern rifles for serious use? More specifically would there be a downside to trying one of the below smaller than standard front sight posts on a serious use gun?
I’ve heard of envisioning the front sight post in sections when shooting at distance or for high precision. It seems like getting a smaller front sight post like the ones below would be helpful in getting a more precise sight picture. I wouldn’t think that the below front sight posts would slow you down for the high speed up close shoots either but I could be wrong, that’s why I’m asking.
I swapped all my front sight post out to smaller match width post long ago. I prefer the smaller post as it makes for better long range precision for my eye while giving up nothing short range/ speed wise.
Well I got a couple .034" KNS front sights from DSG and installed one in a Daniel Defense fixed front sight. It threaded in snug just like the factory front sight post and there is zero wiggle. Shouldering the rifle I like the thinner front sight post. I won’t know for sure until I go to the range and re-zero but my initial impression is great. It doesn’t seem to take away from anything up close as you can still see the front sight fine. Before installing it I thought maybe it would be too thin and wash out but that is not the case.
The pictures below don’t really do it justice. The difference in thickness in person is more noticeable.
Anyway just wanted to give an update in case anyone else wanted to try these out. I’ll get to the range after the Holidays and post some more feedback here.
