I picked up a 2 buck Gerber pull through just to have in my pack for a touch up. My EDC knife doesn’t get abused or overly used so it’s great for a quickie touch up. I have a full kit smith that has 4 stones and oil like the OP’s.
I use DMT blocks coarse and fine I also have a white ceramic polishing stone that I use to put a final polish and to touch up if need be. The trick is holding the blade at a constant angle a trick I got from a old timer was to use a sharpie and color the edge you know you have the right angle by how even the colored edge is removed. The king of knife sharpeners is the Edge Pro, but it is hardly portable. However, nothing else has ever even come close… nada.
For a fast sharpening, I will take the Spyderco Sharp Maker hands down. For a truly field sharpening setup, one good stone with a leather strop, and the know-how to get an edge back on it.
