It’s been 20 years since I owned a 1911. I’ve been looking for a smaller carry piece. I came across a really good deal on this Kimber. I know they are not great guns, but they are better then your basic base gun.
Those of you in the know. What upgrades could you recommend? It has night sights and extended thumb safety. It shoots and groups well. What would you guys recommend for mags?

IMNSHO I think that sometimes people look for problems where none exist. If you pistol is functioning correctly then the only thing I’d change are recoil and firing pin springs because you may not know what the round count is on those, and new is always better in terms of recoil springs. For magazines there are Tripp, Wilson Combat, Chip McCormick, Mec-Gar, and I’m sure a few others I’m forgetting to mention.
Springs and magazines as said above. Who told you Kimbers were not great guns?
Your right good idea I need to order new springs. Of the mags you listed are there any known issues with officer sized mags?
Simple answer, I did. I’ve never seen a Kimber make it through a full course without some type of failure. It has been 10 years since I went through a course with someone shooting a Kimber. I know the company has come a long way in that time.
