If he’d been a black snake, we wouldn’t have had our disagreement, I would have moved him along. I don’t mess around with something that could make me very sick.

They taste a lot like chicken! ![]()
At least you didn’t find him ON A PLANE!
Wussy:p
You should have put on your snake wrangling hat and played with him like the Crock Hunter would have…
CRIKEY…Ain’t he a Rippa!!!
Good shooting… I had snakes…Grrrrr…
xxxxx
Ok what type of snake is that
(pardon my ignorance since all I ever see are gardner snakes here in arlington)
I saw a 3-4 Cooperhead earlier today while mountain biking. He was trying to get across the trail and if I had maintained my line I would have ran right over him. However because it was wide I saw him in plenty of time and was able to get on the other side of the trail.
However I still screamed like a 9 year old girl and I think I may have even wet myself a little bit. :o
As M4arc said, looks like a Copperhead. They can be kinda aggressive.
When I was a kid, I used to camp with a church group someplace that had Copperheads. One day/night, the counselors killed two. The camp’s caretaker took them home, and the next day brought the counselors snakeskin hatbands, commenting that those snakes don’t taste too bad.

Yup, that’s a VA copperhead, about the only venomous snake we have from Richmond north…there are eastern diamondbacks and timber rattlers, and possibly some cottonmouths, but none around central VA.
If he’d been a blacksnake, I would have had a conversation with him and reasoned with him to move along, like this fellow I found in one of my seismograph boxes earlier this year…

I find that the motto:“the only good snake is a dead snake” is a good one.
That way you don’t need to try to remember which color sequence the bands are to indicate poison vs. non poison.
LOL. I remember “red & yellow, kill a fellow; red & black, nice to Jack” from childhood.
Growing up in southeastern VA, we’d kill the cottonmouths, and leave the black snakes and garter snakes alone.
I seen a huge water snake about an hour ago while I was fishing off my buddies pier. I was cutting up bloodworms for bait and I went down the steps that go into the water to wash my hands. I looked over and about 2 foot away is this huge snake probably 4 feet long with a fat body. Needless to say I jumped and almost crapped myself. Not sure what kind of snake it is or if it’s poisonous but they’re are poisonous water snakes around so I wasn’t taken any chances.
I don’t like killing animals even if they are harmful. The way I look at it is they where here before me and there in there habitat so I just watch em’ from a distance and leave them be. My friends neighbor was outside shooting ducks with a pellet gun while I was out there also. My friends dad gets pissed which I don’t blame him. No reason he should be picking off animals, he doesn’t like them because they shit on his peer occasionally. He also threatened to shoot my friends dog which really pissed his dad off. He is a devildog from Vietnam and says he gonna start shooting at him and see how he likes it.
my problem, by the time i get close enough to tell if their venomous i’ve usually already blown their head off, and since they have no head left i cant tell if they are venomous so i just go with the “only good snake is a dead one”
