Kidney Stones

The last one I had (my 3rd) the nurse told me she has had a kidney stone and given birth, the kidney stone hurt more. I started eating a lot of spinach last summer and bam another stone.

I went uder a semi many years ago…busted up pretty bad including a couple of busted vertabre…had most of my back fused together along with metal rods placed on each side of my spine. Had close to two years of recovery therapy to resume a somewhat normal life albiet living woith constant pain. THEN I started having kidney stones!!! Crap…those things hurt as bad as my back problem!! Worse part is I have had 6 of them so far.
One they first tried stints, in recovery the nurse came in to check on it…as she pulled the covers back she also grabbed the string that was attached to the stint…YEP…SHE PULLED IT OUT!! Had to go back to surgery and get another put in. Came back stateside and it started causing interanl bleeding. Had to go to the emergency room and get it removed.
After waiting for it to “pass” the Doc said he would have to remove it. He numbed my lower extremities and then called the local construction company. They brought over a full swing backhoe and drove it up my “privates” …after the trip up to my kidneys they grabbed the stone (boulder) with the bucket and proceeded to drive back out. When they made it back out they called in the dump truck and dropped the stone in it to haul off …Maybe I embelished the story a little bit but I am telling it to the best of my memory…I may have been under the influence of mild medication so it may have been a D9 bulldozer for all I know!!!
That is my kidney stone story and I’m sticking to it!!! LMAO!!
Oh, Did I mention that they can be slightly painful?

PS…Good luck, you’re going to need it!!

Battled stones for about 7 years- in the end my left kidney had a malformation were the renal pelvis dumped into the ureter. So no matter how much the stone got blasted it wasn’t going to pass. I get multiple lithios and small fragments would pass but the larger stone just kept growning. When the my new and third urologist final surgically removed it from my left kidney it was 1.2 cm. He put a permanet stent into my kidney and removed all the scar tissue that the stone had caused over the years and I’m fine. Hell I used to walk around with a bottle of dilaudid in my pocket because percocet quit working. Just had a CT of my lower ab and pelvis and I’m all clear two year out.

Been dealing with them on and off for ~15 years now. No BS about the pain. The first time, I was doubled over on a conference table during a meeting with a customer. Made it to the doc’s office, where he promptly walked me across the street to the ER & got me a shot of Demerol. It wore off in the middle of a KUB test - they had to give me another shot to get me able to lie flat on the exam table to get thru the procedure. Two weeks of Dilaudid waiting my turn in the Lithotrypsy trailer.

I keep a fresh supply of pain meds on hand “just in case”. You know the pain is bad when two 7.5/750 Vicodin only take the edge off enough to get to an ER. Dilaudid rocks, just don’t plan any activities while taking it!

Water, and lots of it, is your friend…like my Urologist said, “if your urine isn’t clear, you aren’t drinking enough water.”

I have had 5 or 6 stones since 2005. The first one I didn’t know what was happening to me! I was driving and pulled over next to a police officer parked in a parking lot and collapsed. They gave me 13 units of morphine and it didn’t touch the pain. The second one came only 2 months later while at work, on a call. Both about 4 mm. The third one got lodged in my ureter and had to be surgically removed. They put in a catheter and that was horribly painful every time I urinated. The next one was about 2mm and I did not go to the hospital. I drank about 2 gallons of water as fast as I could take it in and curled up in a ball until it passed about 10 hours later. The last one I had was about 18 months ago. I went to the hospital and they gave me the normal CAT scan and tons of drugs. I passed it 7 days later! That was the worst week of my life. The next day I went into the doctor’s office and he told me that the stone was about 7mm and would have to be surgically removed. I pulled the vial out of my pocket and put it on the table. The urologist told me that no one better ever tell me that I can’t handle pain. He shook his head in disbelief that it passed.
I have been trying to watch what I eat and drink but I am addicted to iced tea and have worn out two iced tea brewers. I take a double dose of FOLLIC ACID pills to eat up the uric acid in my body and I also drink a lot of water and citric acids. Citric acid will dissolve some types of kidney stones in the kidneys. Lemonade is good for this. I have heard from women who have had children that if they had the choice between child labor and kidney stones, they would choose he child labor.

Well, they went in today and pulled the big one out. 45 minutes, complete success (so far, no issues). I already feel 1000 times better. So, I passed a tiny one on my own and had a big one removed. Good times.

Seriously. I am going to eat my gun before I get a stone.

Years ago, I had a partner “catch a stone” while we were on a Domestic Violence call. He just sat there with beads of sweat pouring off of him. When we were done, he didn’t say anything. He just drove himself to the hospital.

These things scare the shit out of me!

You guys should make a list of things NOT TO DO (besides living in VA) to avoid these evil stones.

Glad all you stoners are ok. Heal quick R21R.

Calcium oxalate, 9mm.

I was in so much pain I doubled over and vomited so hard that my bunghole was flaring out of my mouth.

Stupid docs at the ER had me go up the pain ladder, and gave me worthless percocets in the beginning. It took a trip to the urologist to get (yet another) ultrasound and an Rx that actually did something.

The pain sucked even with the meds.

As if that weren’t enough, I was constipated for the whole week it took me to pass the stone. Only time in my life I never took a dump for a whole week.

I passed the fucker(s) at 3 am after 7 days of total misery. I woke up feeling somewhat relieved (like an out of body experience) and was happy to see the damn things in the strainer the doc gave me.

I think I have a pic of it somewhere, along with a pic of the passenger side of my car that was covered in vomit while my wife was driving me to the ER …
