I have recently acquired a P9 for summer carry and the mags give me a less than fuzzy feeling. I have a call into Kahr but am waiting for a call back.
The top round can sit at any number of different angles depending on how it fed. So far I have only had feed problems with HP ammo but that is what I would prefer to carry for personal defense.
As well, when carrying a mag loose in a pocket it seems to unload itself if jostled.
Does anyone know if there are newer OEM or aftermarket mags I should be looking for?
Agreed. The loose mag in the pocket is definately bad juju and certainly not my prefered method. I mentioned it to help illustrate my bigger concern of the feed being effected by the inconsistent manner in which the top round sits.
I have read elsewhere of guys having jam problems and they say the problem is the mag followers. The story from Kahr is that their supplier changed materials without notifying them. This said, however, they could not tell this owner when/if they would be fixing the problem.
I would be interested to know if other Kahr people are having problems because I was looking at the P9 for a new skinny carry.
I have had zero problems with FMJ. When the HP (Hydra Shock) jamed it required dropping the mag to clear. The hollow point of the bullet hooks on the feed ramp. I am looking for a more rounded contour HP.
I must admit the P9 even with a less expensive Galco IWB is very comfortable with minimal print. T-shirt & shorts are GTG.
Shooting weak (left) hand is very easy however the slide release takes a bit of practice. The trigger is what it is. Not too bad not too good but certainly acceptable for PD. Take down is stiff but manageble.
My only hang up is the mags but they aren’t stopping me.
I have a kahr cw9 and have noticed the same thing with the magazines. Like previously posted the mags should not be carried loose it your pocket, but I agree that it applies to all magazines. My cw9 has gone through a little over 300 rounds with no failures. Ammunition was Fiocchi 115 gr. ball, S&B 124 gr. ball, Winchester 115 gr. ball and value pack 115 gr. HP, Golden Sabre 147 gr. HP and Hornady 124 gr. XTP HP. No break in like the manual suggested, just plug and play with whatever ammnition was in reach. I’m a thin guy and bought it for carry and don’t regret it one bit. I love this pistol.
I love my P9 and it is my preferred CC, especially in the summer. Having said that, I too had the bad habit of carrying the spare mag loose in my pocket and invariably I would find a few rounds out of the mag in the pocket. Now I just keep the spare in a nylon mag pouch and that solved my problem.
I have carried a P9 on and off (mostly on) for the last eight years. Never a malfunction. I have had rounds come out of the top of the magazine, only to be found lying at the bottom of my mag pouch, impeding reinsertion of the mag into the pouch. Frustrating. I have five mags and they are all prone to this phenomenon.
Sometimes I’ll pull the mag out of the pouch and the top round will be partially stripped out of the mag, as if it’s getting snagged while I’m pulling it out of the pouch. The pistol functions 100%. I use Speer 147grn Gold Dot for carry, but have run multiple types of ammo with no issues.
I have had the same issues with Kahr mags. It was funny (or would have been if it wasn’t so serious) when I’d be standing around…just talking to people or what ever…and I’d hear the sound of a round or two popping out of one of my spare mags.
