I’m looking for opinions comparing the KAC Triple Tap (Inconnel…) and the PWS FSC556 (QDSS NT-4 mount version). Obviously both will mount the QDSS NT-4 suppressor to possibly be added at a later date. Currently a 16" barrel but will become SBR before can is added so all opinions welcome. The PWS is currently on this gun. Looking for info on:
Which shoots flatter to you?
Which has more flash suppression?
Which is quieter to you?
Do you “feel” blast with the KAC (I feel blast with the PWS; harmless but a little disconcerting for the wife!)
Most comparisons I’ve read put them pretty damn close in terms of performance. Seems like brakes are a pretty subjective thing (or at least most testing around them is). While there have been some documented brake tests with sleds and such, I’m not aware of any that included the KAC.
Here are some threads where people make direct comparisons:
There are plenty of other threads that make passing reference to compare the two, but those seem to have the most solid info from people who have actually used both.
It’s recoil reduction is similar to the FSC556 and KAC Triple Tap. It’s a $99 comp/flash hider that hides flash as well as a FSC556 and reduces recoil very similarly. It’s louder than both the FSC556 and KAC Triple Tap but reduces muzzle lift better than both in my experience. (I own 1 KAC Triple Tap, 2 FSC 556s and 1 AAC Brakeout). If the noise bothers you in the least or you shoot a lot against barriers, indoors, CQB or near the ground etc the KAC Triple Tap cannot be beat. But for a dual/triple purpose brake/comp the AAC Brakeout or the PWS FSC556 would do double/triple duty as training/competition/duty muzzle device and do very well against dedicated flash hiders and dedicated comps.
If you plan on actually mounting a KAC NT4 suppressor, the KAC enhanced mount is the way to go. That device was designed to optimize the performance of the suppressor, more than to act as a stand-alone muzzle device (and that came straight from my KAC rep).
On another note, I bought a couple of the PWS made NT4 “compatible” mounts and my KAC suppressor would not fit the mounts. The indexing pin inside the suppressor was longer than the depth of the indexing slot that milled into the front edge of the PWS mount, preventing the suppressor from fully seating on the mount.
I ended up using a Dremel tool with a cutoff wheel to cut the bottom out of the indexing slot on the PWS mount and had to open up the width of the slot a little as well, but after that the suppressor mounted properly and has worked fine since.
If you’re not planning to run the KAC suppressor, save your money and buy the PWS “long” hider/break and you’ll be happier.
So do you notice less muzzle rise and more push back with the KAC on a carbine gas system? I mean, I’m happy withe PWS but just curious what others who owned/have used the KAC thought. I have to admit it is a huge entry fee; I guess I just want to know if the KAC would be a better choice on a 10.5" SBR if there is a possibity of an NT-4 can in the future! Thanks for all your help!
On a carbine gas gun just about every brake works even better and this includes the KAC Triple Tap. If I owned a KAC NT4 sound suppressor from KAC I’d use my KAC Triple Tap on my 10.5" gun, KAC makes some very good sound suppressors.
I don’t shoot my 10.5" gun unsuppressed much at all so using a AAC Brake or Brakeout on it usually of no consequence to me. If you’ve ever shot against barriers or the ground like in roll-over prone you’ll notice immediately that the less pressure leaving the sides of the KAC don’t make the muzzle of the gun bounce around as much. It’s kind of like diffuser. If the vast majority of your shooting is from regular prone, standing, kneeling, sitting and bench then the PWSs or AACs are a much better choice economically.
Thanks Robb, I’ll check into the AAC. Most of my shooting is standing, kneeling, flat prone, and too much in the way if barriers so the PWS is fine. Just curious on the push back vs muzzle rise. Thanks again for all your help!
Felt recoil of all three are about the same. The AAC Brakeout climbs the least for me. The KAC feels the smoothest and is the quietest followed next by the PWS FSC556 and the loudest being the Brakeout. Also try a H, H2 and H3 buffer with the comp and you’ll be kind of shocked what you’ll find. I need to get a Spikes T2 to try.
i have and use the KAC Triple Tap Brake, AAC 51T Brake, and PWS TTO Brake.
my main comment is that the AAC Brake has the least felt recoil. The Triple Tap slightly edges out the PWS as far as recoil control.
the biggest difference that puts the Triple Tap above the rest in my experience is that the TTB has the least side blast. this lets you shoot prone and other unconventional positions without as much dirt and debris blasting back at you. also a big deal for me as well is that when you are firing on a line (as in a class) you’re not blasting shooters to either side of you. i’ve shot next to guys running 3-gun style brakes at classes and it is really annoying.
if you don’t care about side blast, then i’d go with the AAC.
Great info pal as I have been strongly considering either the new Brakeout or the fast attach Brake…its kinda giving me fits. Both are such great looking devices and I cannot figure out if the fast attach brake will yield that much more recoil reduction and reduction of muzzle flip than the brakeout which already from my research does a stellar job in respect to those traits…all the while flash suppressing a bit(however IIrc MM’s sweet pics and vid. showing flash at night was still bright enough to black NV out).
Would you say the brakeout is a better unit than the fsc556? And if you have any time w. the fast attach brake and can shed any light on whether its that better of an actual brake than the brakeout or not?
