New to the KAC/AR10 scene and looking to build an SR25 clone using the URX rails, etc. I was thinking about starting with the Mega Arms MATEN combo receiver and curious if that would work. Also, need some input on a precision 16" barrel 5R barrel. Accuracy is what Im chasing in a 308 since I already have a SCAR17 as a battle rifle. Any addt’l insight is appreciated.
Just went back to their page. I think it’s the URX III. or 3.1, I was looking at the .308 rails and they look different. I think I read somewhere that the newer low profile DPMS pattern .308 uppers allow the use of the 5.56 rails, but I’m not sure. The .308 AR world has no real standard (like mil-spec) so I’m still researching and learning. Mine will be on a CMMG (DPMS pattern) lower so I may have different choices available. Not sure if it’s more choices, or less just yet.
Anyone else want to volunteer to help with specs on build? what fits & dont? I would use a smith to assemble everything, but need to make sure I have correct parts to make it work. This is my 1st try on an AR10 platform.
I would contact Marvin Pitts at Nefarious Arms. He can give you specs and build it. I saw some pics on his FB page where he built a M110K clone for customer. He even had the correct gas block, an item nearly impossible to obtain.
Definitely not a URX II rail, like the others above stated. There’s a guy on AR15 in the EE section selling a small lot of parts that he was going to use for a SR25/M110 clone build. I think just for half of the parts to complete it alone was already around $3000.
I did an M110K1ish build. Its on the custom build subforum.
It was expensive, heartbreaking, and took me a few years to source the parts. It is accurate. Not factory accurate but no slouch. I used a Rock Creek barrel and it gets very acceptable MOA. It will NEVER be a real M110K1 barrel, ever. But dimpling makes it close.
My best advice would be to save your money and buy a factory rifle.
Marvin Pitts and Ayan will be your lifelines and the fungineers at KAC can offer suggestions and well wishes but understandably can’t say “Sure! Go ahead and slap that on one of our receivers”.
It will be expensive, heartbreaking, and yeah you’ll have a homebrew but it was a humbling experience.
ETA if you’re using MATEN then it won’t be an SR25 ever. It’ll be an AR 308. A nice one but not an SR25.
The URX 3.1 is great but if I venture a more generic AR 308 build I’ll likely use a PRI delta fore end or some keymod.
Buy a factory rifle…one of the recent refurbished trade-ins that came from KAC or a LaRue OBR or predatOBR. You will sink a ton of money into a clone build, it may/may not be totally reliable, and you will never recoup your costs if you want/need to sell later.
Huh? Maten frames work with Larue, LMT, and KAC uppers. I used a MATEN lower and a LMT LM8MWS upper and they function 100%.

+1 on buying a factory SR25 or similar rifle. Trying to source all the KAC parts will just cause headaches, frustration and alcoholism. I used to own a SR25 ECC (similar to the military K1). It was the softest shooting 308 rifle I’ve ever shot, but IMHO not worth the price tag. I ended up selling it to fund 2 LMT rifles. If you could find a used ECR, ECC SR25 for a deal or you HAVE to have a SR25 then by all means pick one up. They are works of art, but you can get 90-95% of a KAC SR25 for 50%of the price in other companies… and I’m a HUGE KAC fan boy.
Do the latest gen of SR-25’s still have the problem of using pmags ? I know this kept me from buying one in the past. KAC factory mags are a joke when it comes to price.
My ECC had a little issue with dropping free (nothing a little sanding of the mag wouldn’t fix). The gen 3 PMAG I believe corrected this. I sold my ECC at the time the gen 3’s came out, and can’t remember using them in my ECC, but all the reports I’ve read were positive.
This is intended for M110 users and post that point in time of production.
For a time there was magazine issue that was a result from the aftermarket magazines that had issues with the bolt stop. The channel in the magazine bodies had insufficient clearance that could lead to the bolt stop dragging the system and impeding function. The newer magazines do not have that issue. They could be fixed by most end users if desired.
As far as drop free, most seemed to use the ambi release and pull the magazine on the KAC and LMT models. Users that used the conventional non ambi controls did not seem to have issues for others. Some magazines will have a variance in use.
The factory KAC magazines do work well, but the cost is up there.
Until a better magazine is out, the end use is going to determine what the best magazine is for that application. It may cost $100, it may cost $20. If the $20 works, then use it. If the $100 is needed, use it.
Lol. Gottcha… I get where you are coming from, but then one could draw the line in the sand that all clones that aren’t 100% legit shouldn’t be called SR25 rifles. IMHO SR25 refers to the pattern of rifle (i.e. has an angled upper/lower receiver cut, and uses SR25 style magazines).
My LMT rifles don’t say “SR25”, but the forgings are identical to pre SR25 ambi bolt release lowers (LMT and KAC have been in bed for years).
For the record I’d rather have the rock creek barrel that’s on your clone then a factory CL KAC barrel. My ECC was a 1.1-1.5" MOA gun. My match LMT barrels (made by rock creek) are much more accurate.
