Recently I have received complaints from civilians and Law Enforcement in California that KAC does not ship to Ca. One specific bone of contention is we do not ship to Ca. from our website. The reason for this is as follows, the California Department of Justice, when it created the Assault Weapon List, included our SR-25 and SR-15 rifles; however it also included the RAS, ALL MODELS. This means that our rails are an assault weapon as per California Law, and they prohibited to possess unless previously registered by the grandfather date. Our rails remain the only rail mentioned by the Ca. DOJ, and in correspondence with us, they admit the RAS systems were added to the Assault Weapon List by accident, however they have no intention on removing it. So at this time our Company policy is to sell Rifles and Accessories only to Military units or Law Enforcement Departments in California on official purchase orders. We do have a California dealer who deals strictly with Law Enforcement, and for individual officer sales we encourage you to contact Larry Northrop of River City Gun Exchange, our California LE Dealer, and for civilians any of our other dealers for purchase and shipping on non AW items. We strongly encourage all Californians to write Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, and ask him to remove the RAS from it, if not abolish the list in its entirety.

This is incorrect. “Rails” are NOT regulated items. You can ship everything save for the “regulated” lower.
The Ca. DOJ will only address our issues on the phone, requests for a letter as to the error have gone unaswered.
I understand the commentary about the list, however as it stands they (Ca. DOJ) note for KAC: SR-25 All Models; SR-15, All Models; and RAS, All Models
The fact we do not make a rifle noted the RAS, nor ever, have lead us to the understanding they targeted the only well known rail at the time (2000). Secondly under the principles of common law, the specific over rules the general, thus while the general catagories of the AWB mention centerfire rifle etc, they mention the RAS by name, thus it can be understood that the rail itself is an assault weapon.
If the Ca. DOJ would recind the notation about the RAS, or clarrify its position in paper, then we could ship rails into Ca. for public cosumption without concern about unintentionally running anyone afoul of the law.
Cool I didn’t know that my KAC RAS was an assault rifle all by its self  Never ceases to amaze me how smart liberal’s are.
Thanks KevinB I learned something new.
Thats a damn good point. They go by name specifically, not wether or not it actually is and “assault weapon”… this very reason allowed the sale of “off list lowers” here… Its stupid but unless it is removed they can treat it as felonious.

So,
I walked inro a local gun store today and they had an ENTIRE shelf full of KAC rails and uppers. So, as I stated earlier, this information is INCORRECT. I am not rubbing anyone’s nose in anything, I am just stating what I know is fact.
I understand the hurt feelings on behalf of KAC on this issue, but this policy only serves to encourage the anti 2nd Amendment contingent in CA to conitinue these types of shenanigans. It penalizes the KAC fanbase and the folks that fight in support the 2nd amendment here. I’m sure that all the socialist bed-wetters in this state love and support your policy. You are not sending the right message to our legislature. Hope you reconsider your stance.
What you have said doesn’t prove that Kevin et al @ KAC haven’t been told what they claim by the state of California (which I’m assuming you live in although you don’t have anything in your profile under location so who the hell knows).
DOJ won’t send them a letter. They are busted before for underground regulation. Calguns.net have a lot of peeps know the in and outs of the stupid AWB in Cali.
I am in absolute agreement. If you are going to penalize the public, you should also penalize the state/county/city government that imposes these laws. I am in total support of Ronnie Barret. No guns for the people, no guns for government. You just have to be willing to sacrafice sales and stand up for your principals. Barret does this. Bravo.
To deny the 2nd ammendment supporting public, yet continue to sell to the government entities that emplace and enforce these lousy laws sends the wrong message.
if nobody else said it, i was gonna suggest it myself. any chance KAC will take a stand for American citizens and inform california that they’ll no longer be doing business with california LEAs?
If I read this right, buy from a CA KAC dealer since KAC will not ship a non firearm part to CA. Not even a handstop, BUIS and rail covers because KAC believes it is a firearm?
