Do you remove the clips prior to installation? I tried to just slide them on my Colt 6940 and I couldn’t get them to slid down over the rail. I fit the two lower panels around my VFG by removing the clips and the reinstalling once the panel was in place. This seemed a little goofy for a USGI product that should just snap on; it also messes with the spring tension of the clip if you get too aggresive and bend it (don’t ask…lol).
I have not used these very often, but once you slide the panel as far as it will go…you must them press on the middle of the spring clip. That will spread them out and allow it to go the rest of the way on. Hope this helps.

but KAC covers wont work with the 6940 usless you mod the rail

KAC rail covers are made to fit only and clip on the end of the kac rail check with quibb i think he posted the screwdriver trick, w/ video on here somewere
I’m not sure why folks are saying that KAC Rail Covers will not fit on Colt 6940s, they fit tight & look great on my new gun.
I have fit small panels forward and aft of my VFG and installed a long panel on one side of the rail. The only issue is my quick release sling swivel interferes w/ the installation of the other long panel; it is just a little too long. I might have to remove a small amount of material to make it fit. It looks goofy if I move the panel back one slot.

this is not the first time I have heard something about the KAC panels not working with the 6940, has anyone have an idea why?
I am foolishly thinking that all rails are mil-spec and would assume one set of rail covers would fit on another site of rails.

See how the last slot on the ends have a notch cut out on the sides? If your rail doesn’t have this slot (6940s don’t), you can’t use KAC rail covers the way they were designed to be used. They are supposed to be used on the end of the rail (front or back) facing inward with the metal clip in the cut out slot. You can put them anywhere on the rail and on any rail system if you put it in position and pry out on the metal tab until the sides click over the rail. The 6940 comes with ladder rail panels because they work on any rail at any position. If you want to use full size rail covers but don’t have the cut outs in your rail use Tango Down, MagPul, DD, or any other that doesn’t have a clip like the KAC ones.

I once got a set of Troy MRF DI for midlength and due to machining issues the some rails were too out of spec that I couldn’t hammer the KAC panels on with a mallet.
Troy has great CS and they replaced the rail, but it happens.
In addition the first gen of Troy MRF rails didn’t have the cut for KAC panels. It was introduced in gen 2.
Yes, I liked them, but I found them not to be too versatile per the above reference thread. And yes, they interfered with my QD on my 6940. I do like that 6940:D I am trying the Lego Magpuls right now. I like them pretty well. Like the other guy said, they (KAC) only fit the one notch on the end of the rail. :rolleyes:
I kept them and may try another time. They are more compact and I like that about them.
