I’ve got a post ban KAC barrel with the faux flash hider. I’m told it can be removed, but I have no idea how. Anyone have any ideas?
I have an older SR15, the “FH” if you could call it that, had to be cut off
Our (KAC) faux flash suppressor was “pressed on” and if you are successful pulling it off (withour damaging the crown) you are left with too long of about a .600" diameter (i.e., length of the flash suppressor) to deal with easily if all you want to do is thread the muzzle for a real muzzle device and also keep the barrel at 16" (assuming you have a carbine).
I suggest that on a lathe you might just turn the muzzle diameter right through the body of the faux flash suppressor and form the proper threads anf shoulder most devices use, but not cutting the shoulder back any further than required for normal barrel threads (about .500"). Then turn the outside diameter of the remaining faux device to match the barel diameter behind it.
I have never tried this, but I have seen the results of just pressing it off and theading back the muzzle for normal threads, leaving a reduced diameter section between the rear of the new device and the larger barrel diameter behind it. This did not look too good to me.
