Shoot its so new i dont know what to think----
I just had Ayan and boltcarrier update my legacy with a URX 4, he his shipping it back to me tomorrow. So I vote the mod 2! I like the idea behind the keymod.
Gas system is the biggest bonus.
I was really hoping to be able to go chrome carrier and chrome bolt this year for commercial guns.
When you say the gas system is better - aside from the way the tube is secured to the port via the block - are there any changes in the gas system?
Also what is the price point on the Mod 2?
How is the gas system different? I read it was just a new gas block with a locking ring or something. Does that constitute a new gas system? How much better are we talking. I’m getting sick of buying an sr15 every year. Did Steve jobs fake his death and start working at kac?
If you are happy with what you have now, why the need to change? I did find the changes like the straight gas tube, and the new gas block interesting.
+1 The set screw and pinning methods have worked fairly well up to this point, but as an engineer I’m happy to see that someone took a fresh look at the connection and (seems to have) found a more robust/reliable method for installing the gas block.
Any thoughts on the new QDC flash hider?
+1 as well. I really hope they shortened the gas system slightly to add some more reliability.
The KAC 3 prong FH seem to work very well so far, but I haven’t done any serious testing of it, mostly casual stuff.
I’m pretty sure they lengthened the gas system to increase reliability.
I prefer a properly made and chromed BCG, the “sand cuts” in the rails are a nice touch. Hopefully the “in house” chroming turns out well. Superior burned a few bridges for more than a few.
As much as I like the KAC offerings, the SR25 gas tube can be considered long on 14.5" guns. Maybe with the MOD2 straight gas tube, they could shorten it to add some more reliability?
Are we talking about SR15 or SR25 carbines? Your mention of SR25 gas tubes is confusing me and I don’t want to interject unwanted input.

Personally, I’m not tempted to upgrade from MOD 1 to MOD 2 for the keymod, new and improved gas system, and FH. Not completely sold on the keymod, but change happens. Either we evolve or we stagnate. Besides that, not really much to improve on when the MOD 1 was damn near perfect out the gate. Just one man’s opinion of course. Just happy to be afforded an opportunity to buy more KAC goodness down the road.
I think he was referring to the old SR25 / current SR15 gas tube.
I was referring to the older SR25 carbine length gas tube that’s been used on E3 legacy, MOD1s. Specifically to the recent 14.5" offerings, the long gas tube doesn’t have so much dwell. I like the extended gas systems, it’s just a little on the longer side for some applications.
Most people greatly over-estimate the effect of system dwell on non-standard gas systems with purpose-driven gas port sizes.
I apologize, as I really can’t discuss technical aspects of this statement.
Without discussing any tech aspects, can you tell us what updates the mod 2 has over the mod 1 ? I am all confused now since someone is saying crap about the SR-25. They need to start their own thread. I did hear something about gas block attachment and urx 4, but nothing else. I have not seen when these will be available for order yet either. If you have to start a new thread and make it the official mod 2 thread so it will not get sidetracked.
I think the only differences are the URX4 and new gas system. Also looks like it will ship with the QDC flash hider instead of an A2 flash hider and possibly the new KAC ambi charging handle.
I just reread what I could find on the net. Is the new gas system just the new gas block attachment method or did they also change port size/ length ?
Updating the attachment of the gas block does not relate to a new gas system in my eyes.
