Are K.A.C.'s S.C.A.R. submissions ever going to see the light of day?
You have no idea how much I’ve wanted to see them.
i had a picture of the 2 once upon a time. let me see if i can find it.
found!

Aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh… Now I can die happy.
Thank you.
Wow. I am curious about that bottom one…
Where the hell did you find that?
Those guns are hanging on the wall in the Knight’s museum in Titusville.
Now, I’m feeling lucky:
How about a pic of the R2 with the forestock removed, and of an unfired cartridge for same?
Eh, I can do without pics (still want 'em)… but what’s the story on them?
Specifically the bottom one.
Top gun is fairly conventional. Both guns used full curved modified Stoner 63 magazines,45 deg rotation safeties and light profile dimpled bbls. Bottom gun is very AK/Sig 550 like it has monolithic upper and modular lower. Both cool guns in their own right. The use of the full curved magazine is perhaps the most overlooked and significant feature of both guns.
…
Why is the use of a full curved magazine so important?
correct me if i’m wrong, but since the case is tapered, stacked rounds will form an arc. the original 20 round magazine is short enough and keeps the cases in full contact with each other by having the angled bottom. if the cases only contact at the base with the front of the round free to ‘float’, this can cause inconsistent feeding or jams in the magazine as the rounds will not always be lined up correctly/consistently.
since the AR15 mag well is straight, it cannot accommodate a fully curved 30-round magazine, so that’s why it has a straight top portion and a curved bottom. the transition from curved to straight portion of the 30-round magazine can cause those issues mentioned above. also, by having a follower that has to go from a curved to straight portion, it’s a compromise between a follower that’s specifically designed for smooth feeding in either a straight section or curved section. if it has to fit both, that means that slop has to be designed into it, which means that there’s more potential for it to get misaligned and hang up.
ideally, you want either a straight magazine or curved one - not one with both sections.
This is why AK type magazines are so reliable?
that’d be my assumption, but i’ll defer to the experts.
Thank you for posting this info. Any chance of seeing some additional photos detailing it stripped into its major components?
Gasblock and valve look very SIG-like. Valve and bolt handle look like those of a 552 and the bolt handle retaining lever and bolt carrier also appear very 55x-inspired.
III, can you comment any further on the SCAR submission on the bottom? After further study of the photo it appears to have a SIG 552 bolt carrier. The length of the gas system is greater than that of the 552, so I assume you used a longer piston and thus a longer recoil spring.
