Just saw an AR for sale at Wal-Mart!

I was in need of ammo, and what should greet my eyes as I meander back to the counter? Looked just like an AR.

Didn’t see an orange muzzle, so that ruled airsoft out… regularly proportioned…gas tube… normal-looking mag, so not a .22…

I asked to see it, and sure enough, an actual AR for sale at Wally World!

It was a Bushmaster. I opened it up, carbine buffer, gas key staked VERY well (a data point re: new production) castle nut NOT staked, AR carrier.

I’m guessing ARs are pretty mainstream now? :stuck_out_tongue:

At least it didn’t say Made In China on it!

There was recent mention that Wally World was going to resume gun sales in stores across the country (IIRC).

My wife told me at one point the reason they stopped was because of too many issues with paperwork not being completed correctly, etc…

My suggestion was that they simply hire a suitable person for the positions and pay them slightly more than the average bear.

Delete.

But that’s discrimination, and ultimately racist. Didn’t you get the memo?

I’ve dealt with the kid that was working the counter today on a few occasions.

Some of his prime nuggets o’ wisdom:

He can get a night-vision ACOG for $500 from a guy he knows in the army who always orders more than he needs and sells the excess. He even went to great lengths to tell me dude’s name.

The Mini-14 is the civvy version of the M14. According to his video games, they’re the same gun.

The Mini-14 is a military-grade weapon.

Centerfire ammo is referred to as center-point, and rimfire is edge-point.

You can kill a bad guy who’s around the corner by throwing an ‘edge point’ round against the wall - it might go off and hit him.

This kid needs to be bagging groceries. not selling firearms!

Do tell… Is this at Ft. Campbell or does he work for the TNANG? Your local CID office would like to know about this.

In other news, thankfully Micky Moore and Co are losing the PR war most Americans actually want to be armed. I have noticed that WalMart has (slightly) improved their gun and ammo product line.

There’s a Walmart near me which used to have one particular nutjob working in the sporting goods department. Awesome things he’s told me:

-He fires 2k rounds a week
-Has a gun collection of over 400 firearms and works at Walmart, ‘for fun’
-Carries two Glock 17’s behind his back and can fire them both simultaneously and make tiny holes when firing both at 50m.
-Beat the world record in distance shooting but it wasn’t recognized because of some technicality

and more…

Damn, I was sorry when he stopped working there/got fired because I used to keep a straight face the entire time and then laugh my ass off every time I left.

The last time I bought ammo at a walmart in Phoenix’s West Siiiiiiiide, the homeboy behind the counter did a double-take when I came up with 200rds of WWB 9mm, and said “Yo, dude, that’s the same shit me an’ my boys load in our gats, yo! Fo’ real!”

:suicide2:

His name wasn’t Gecko 45, was it?

How much was that rifle?

Were you in Maryvale?

I’m actually surprised it’s a Bushmaster and not a Mossberg.

Also nice to hear that I’m not the only one with an idiot staffing the ammo counter at the local Walmart. The local guy claims to an ex sniper who can make hits at 2500 yards with a .308, owns a $2k 1911, etc. I wonder if Walmart tries to find the dumbest bubba-gun-shop dropouts for their ammo counters.

Yes it’s true The Wal*Mart is going to be adding rifles (HUNTING) back to select stores.

I just happened to go to one last night (first time in over a year as on my side of town we just got one a year ago and i was NoT impressed by their prices)
We have a few on the portland side of town and was an ok place for ammo during the shortage but Oregon wal-marts stopped selling rifles 4 or 5 years ago.

The manager i talked to said only select stores will be offering their new line on hunting rifles and he opened the book and told me they will have a Bushmaster special model made for Wal-Mart and also a version of the Remington R-15 Predator.

So how long till AR Discussion starts getting HAMMERED with the
“The Gun PRO at The Wal-Mart told me the Remy R15 was just as good if not better than ANY colt” questions.

Then you tell and tell them and just when they seem to get how a Wal-mart version of a bushmaster and Rem R15 isn’t even close
they thank you…

Then go buy the wal-mart ar and start asking about BSA and Tasco being just like an aimpoint.

Oh i forgot to add that one of the reasons i was there was to pick up
one of those Federal 525 Value packs of 22LR BUT someone lost
the only key to the ammo case they haven’t been able to sell ammo
for a few days until they get a smith in there to re-key it.

I see this as a good thing. Am I wrong?

The regional WM manager in my area is an ole college bud of mine.

With but a phone call, I can fix idiots like this.

It was $895.

Hm - I’ve been putting an email together for the store manager about this issue… think your regional manager would be interested in a copy, or would my WM be out of his jurisdiction?

It wouldn’t be out of his jurisdiction but he would likely pass you down to the store manager. My RM knows me personally, that is what is different.

Ah. Store Manager it is then.

I guess that’s just as well - now that I think about it, there’s no need in involving the RM in a problem without giving the SM a chance to take care of it first

Just got back from my local Walmart and they had a Bushmaster Patrolman M4A3 carbine in the rack for $897.
