I know there will be some nonbelievers…and until this week I had never actually laid my hands on one…but I have acquired an early, FN made Israeli FAL. Again, this isn’t a build. It’s 100% Israeli. It’s been in a private collection for over 30 years. You just don’t see these in the States very often.
My question is, does anyone know where I might be able to find a genuine O.I.P 3.6x scope and mount for it? I want to get the feel of a vintage sniper set up. I’ve searched the web high and low with no luck. If anyone has any suggestions I’m open.
No Sir…it is one of the early guns that was built by FN under contract for Israel. No importer marks. I know I’m going to have a hard time convincing some people. There isn’t another rifle out there like this…not that I can find. I will post some pics as soon as I take posession.
Even if it was converted to semi auto only, if it began as a MG you have problems. There are very early import exceptions to this rule like the G series. But generally if the receiver began life as a select fire rifle you have problems.
Also I’m not sure you can convert a select fire to a semi only. I think once you cut the receiver for the sear you can’t really put it back.
No “import marks” generally suggest a pre68 import or one that wasn’t officially imported.
It isn’t a sear cut receiver either…easiest thing to straighten this out will be to get some pics posted. I will have it on Tuesday. Does anyone have a thought on my question about an OIP optic?
Agreed to all. I’ve even seen the experts unable to correctly determine what is what from time to time concerning FALs.
What I’ve learned over the years reading everything from Ed Ezell to Blake Stevens is that even if I think I know what I’m looking at, the best thing to do is say “Nice FAL…what is it?”
Well, sometimes you get lucky…found this guy on Ebay in Haifa selling pretty nice Trilux scopes. That probably is the more realistic look on an Israeli FAL than an OIP. I just want that old designated marksman rifle look.
Price seems to be a little high, but then I am not seeing just a lot of these out there for sale.
I pick up the rifle after work today…I’m about to wet myself. I did a ton of research and am buying the rifle from a very respected collector/shooter in my area who I’ve known for years. But with a rifle like this there is always a chance that it isn’t what we think it is. I’m anxious to get some other opinions…and if it isn’t the holy grail of Israelis FALs, no regrets.
