Just picked up my first AR, help me clean it :)

Well, I’ve been trolling around here for a while now. Did a bunch of reading and picked up my first AR.

Knights SR15 E3, so far I love it. I knew it’d out shoot me and sure enough it did.

Only put about 100 rounds through it so far and I’m looking to find the idea cleaning setup.

Up until now I’ve just been shooting pistols and I don’t have a rifle cleaning setup.

I checked out the awesome cleaning sticky and purchased that red rifle rest to clean my weapon. But I don’t have the other supplies right now.

I wanted to get recommendations on what you all use to clean your rifles?

I’m familiar with Hoppes products and that’s about it.

Slip2k should work - there’s lots of stuff, even CLP will get the job done.

You can get by with as little as brake cleaner, towels and motor oil, but the right products will make life easier.

Fish around for Quib’s posts on the subject, I’ve found them to be much more enlightening than any formal training I’ve gotten to date.

Don’t be cheap when buying your cleaning supplies. Going to need a good bore cleaner, decent solvent, decent oil(there’s a great thread here about what kind of oil people use). Probably going to need a good bore snake and a cleaning rod set, and a good chamber/receiver brush.

The bore is the only thing you really can’t see unless you have the tools and know what to look for when it comes to cleaning. So they say to run the patch till it comes out clean. I think foam bore cleaner works the best, but that’s only my experince and IMO.
