July 4th G-18 shooting

G-18 Shooting at the Leona 4th of July Machinegun Shoot

Enjoy the Glock action

I’d have a woody just being around a G18

What’s the practical application of the G-18? Most of what I could find searching around just said “novelty,” which I’m sure is not the case.

The folks in the video certainly did a better job with it than this guy: YouTube: Guy shoots himself with a Glock 18

G18s can be fun. You can empty cases of ammo quickly.

There are a few roles that benefit for a bona-fide machine pistol, but not nearly as many as most think. There are LE agencies that have issued them to line officers as their duty gun, and more that have had some in their armories. Their auto function is used much more for impressing other agencies and officers than for any useful purpose.

Immediate suppression for PSD work. Instead of carrying a micro UZI or MAC 11; have a Glock that you can just as easily use to deliver accurate S/A fire.

Besides, if I could afford (or even buy) a Glock 18; “practical use” isn’t exactly what I would own one for. :moil:

Agency price for a G18 is less than commercial pricing for a G17, and not much more than agency price for the same. Thus, their popularity in some places.

Good Lord!! New shooters have no business on machine pistols.

There’s an agency in South GA that issues them to every officer. The agency is from a rural county and mainly patrols I-95 out of Florida. Having a machine pistol allows the officer to have a more powerful weapon in case of a problem as backup is a long way away, especially against a car full of BGs.

And then there are the few chief’s that have them for toys.

Are they issued as standard sidearms, or carried in the car in case of need?

that asshat was at the range I shoot at:mad:

I’ve always wanted to try a G18. It just looks like a fun way to blow through Other Peoples’ Ammo. At least in 9mm, it’s somewhat close to controllable.

Many years ago, I saw some tool show up to a subgun shoot with a full-auto conversion of a G20, hybrid-ported, with a vertical foregrip. He was shooting full-house 10mm loads. It was simultaneously hilarious and frightening to watch him close his eyes and grit his teeth before every burst. That kind of turned me off to machine pistols in general for anything other than making a lot of noise.

I’d have left. That sounds downright dangerous. Reminds me of that poor little kid that got killed because some idiots thought it cute to have him shoot a machine pistol.

It’d have been dangerous had he not had an entire mountain as a backstop. As it was, he basically just leaded the hillside and ran out of ammo before he knocked all the plates down. So, stupid, pointless, and ineffective, but not dangerous.

It was hilarious to watch after hearing how this new full-auto Glock was going to whip all the MP5s, Uzis and the occasional MP40 at the match, though.

Alright who remembers Mac Bolan books. He used to carry a pair of Beretta machine pistols. I would think a G18 might be useful on an entry team with the officer on a shield. Surpressive fire comes to mind but I agree it’s more of a toy. I want a pair and some old Mac Bolan books. His guns had a little vertical grip around the muzzle and a compensator.

I think I was the only kid in my entire school that did. I haven’t gone back & re-read any of them for accuracy, might spoil the memories!

Nope it was you and me!

G18s are a hoot. The Glock Sales Manager brought one out to an LE function I was invited to a few weeks ago and I had the opportunity to run a 33 round mag through it. It was surprisingly controllable and a blast to shoot. Just the sound of it firing in the background was enough to put a smile on my face.

It does make ya smile. I used to love shooting the M60. It was more fun to shoot than carry. I got to carry the spare bbl and ammo. There was no good way to lug two ammo cans around. I made some suspenders out of bandoleers. I could carry my rifle better but it was hell on my neck.

Didn’t he carry a Beretta 93R and a .44 AutoMag (Which, if my memories of books read 15 years ago are correct, he referred to as Big Thunder)?

I think I still have a copy of “War Against The Mafia” somewhere.

I would love the chance to shoot a G18, very cool.
