Hey guys,
I just received my new VTAC tube from JP Rifles, and I am almost ready to install it.
Actually, I have to decide on a gas block, as I think I want to keep my OEM Colt FSB, for possible future use.
I purchased the full length VTAC tube, as it’s ONE piece, and it’s made to use with a low profile gas block.
However, IF I REALLY wanted to, I could mill out a custom FSB pocket of my own. I have seen this done before, in one of the pics that Zak Smith posted. I’m 99% sure that the guy in Zak Smith’s pic, had done this, and was NOT using the two-piece VTAC tube.
I have the capability to mill out my own custom FSB pocket, so IF I decide to go this route, it should be no problem.
Anyhow, my question today is what are you guys using for a sling swivel/stud mount on this VTAC tube???
I prefer to mount my Vickers sling to this Colt 6920, in a position very close to the original position of the OEM Colt sling mount.
As you may know, Colt offers the possibility of mounting a sling in two DIFFERENT positions. One is UNDER the FSB, and one is BESIDE (left side) the FSB.
I am using the position to the SIDE of the FSB.
However, the VTAC tube will require I remove this sling mount, so I will be looking for the best way to mount a sling to the VTAC tube, at this same general area.
The VTAC tube kit comes with TWO identical sling “studs”, and I of course will have to decide the best way to adapt a sling swivel to these “studs”.
What do you guys recommend?
I am sitting here looking at the stock Colt swivel, wondering HOW to remove it??? (this is the piece that the sling strap/webbing actually runs through, and it appears to be rubber-coated?).
This Colt “swivel” piece, has a silver colored “pin” of some type, at the pivot point, and I cannot figure out how to remove this “pin”, without drilling it out. This “pin” is NOT a roll pin, and does not remove with a punch. I guess it’s NOT meant to be removed eh? That’s odd, because eventually, when the rubber wears off the “swivel” piece, it would need to be removed and replaced.
ANYHOW, I’m wondering IF this Colt swivel, can somehow be mounted to my JPVTAC sling stud??

If not, then what method do you guys use for mounting your Vickers sling (or ANY sling), to the JP VTAC tubes??? I know there are many ways to do this, and I would really just like to know how you guys are doing it with your VTACS???
I’m always interested to check out all my options first…

No problem to mill a pocket in a full length JP tube.
JP used to sell them this way before they came up with the seperate “extension tubes” that do the same thing for $60 extra.

As for the sling swivel removal, a 1/16" punch from the hollow end of that rivet will drive it back out.
The hollow rivet is a single-use item.
You will NOT be able to re-use your original swivel on a JP stud.
Just get an uncle mikes sling swivel that goes into the JP stud.
You also need to grind off the two ears for the sling swivel and the bayonet lug from the FSB in order for the FSB to fit inside the JP tube.

If you don’t like the hunting gun style swivel and since the V-TAC tube allows you to mount rail where ever you need it you could mount a 2" section toward the back left side and use a DD rail mount. You can get it from DD with or w/o the sling swivel depending on if you bought your Vickers sling with or w/o it already.
