I have a couple questions for folks who own JP rifles, and would like some general feedback. How much did they weigh? How much have you shot through them, and what kind of ammo did you generally shoot through them? If you were buying another, are there things you would change based on your previous experience with a JP rifle (like getting just an upper, or getting the whole rifle if you got just the upper, etc.)?

I haven’t weighed mine, but I have a CTR-02 with a PRS stock and 18" barrel. I shoot mostly Wichester 5.56 through it for 3 Gun which is 1-1.5" MOA. It’s better with 68gr black hills and match grade ammo.
I also have a LRP-07 in 308 with PRS stock and light profile barrel.
They are both incredible rifles. If I had it to do all over again, I wouldn’t change a thing. If I get another, I might consider going with a little lighter stock on the .223.
I’m trying to talk them into making a 6.8 or 300 Blackout, but they are pretty busy just keeping up with current orders.
You really need to shoot one to see for yourself.
i have been curious about the lrp-07. how is the recoil and weight of the rifle compared to other .308 rifles?

I have a JP LRP-07 that i got when i was going to give 3 gun a try. Never did and as such have never really even shot the thing, just sits in the safe. Just got an LMT 308 MWS. I will say the fit and finish on both is excellent and i like them both. the JP is awesome, well worth the wait, I would love to shoot it but it’s almost too pretty you know, and I may sell it so better not shoot it. The JP does feel lighter though. i will try and get a set of scales out and weigh both.
I would say that the recoil impulse of the LRP-07 is similar to my Novekse 5.56 16" Recce with a Vortex flash hider.
I will be getting a KAC SR 25 EMC, so then I will have a comparison for the recoil impulse of another 308.
I am sure the JP will have less of a recoil impulse (Low Mass Operating System, Probably heavier, adjustable gas block, and JP BC break).
My LRP-07 was sitting in my safe for while too and I thought, WTF? Get that thing out and SHOOT IT! I’m having so much fun with it, I’ve decided to get another .308!
The JP LRP-07 recoil feels like a cross between a .223 and a 6.8SPC.
in comparison with other 308 plaform: BM308, MK11, Fulton308, the JP clearly has much less recoil.
I don’t own. But have a put a decent amount of round through a JP rifle 5.56. 18" barrel, rifle gas system with an adjustable gas block, lightened BCG, light buffer and JP adjustable trigger. It is one sweet rifle. Very soft shooting and transitions very well. They take a good amount off the barrel under the handguard, so while the barrel looks heavy, it is not. I would not hesitate to buy one.
to anyone who has experience with the lrp-07… does the lack of a dust cover and forward assist raise any concern?

Ok on a set of refrigerant scales the LRP-07 weighs in at 8lbs 14oz and the LMT MWS is at 10lbs 4oz. Both unloaded and bare as they came from the factory. hope that helps.
You are asking about .223 guns mostly right?
I have a JP upper that I use on a DPMS lower that had a G-match trigger in it, but now has a SDG3 trigger in it. I just buy uppers and build lowers, just easier and I get exactly what I want. If springing for a CTR-02 upper, I’d get a matching lower. With a standard upper I really don’t care.
The upper I have is 18inch with cooling fins, rifle gas and reciver extension, LMOS and JP bolt with adjustable gas and JP brake. It seems to really like 77gr Black Hills ammo. I use a TA11H or a Premier 3-15Mil-Dot, depending on what I want to do with it. I’ve shot it out to 425 yards. Somewhere about 2-3,000 rounds thru it.

With the Premier on steel targets 350+ yards I was hitting the center round sub target on a IPSC sillhoutte with boring regularity. It shoots so smoothly with the gas system dialed in and the brake, I was able to call my own shots with ease.
The old round Viking VTAC handguard can get hot- warm day, 60+ shots in under a 90 seconds is about the only time I noticed it with out gloves, but I have heard others mention it also. M4 barrel Extension, but not M4 ramps on the upper.
It is just a silly, stupid easy way to shoot accurately.
My CTR-02 and LRP-07 do not have these, but my other ARs do. It really is of no concern to me.
Wow! The LRP weighs almost 1.5 lbs less that the LMT! I would not have guessed this.
I have two JP factory-built LE/VTAC rifles. I bought one complete upper, then several months later one complete rifle and one lower.
Without having a decent scale to weigh them, I’d say they’re a bit heavier than a standard LMT 16" rifle
I have a little less than 5K rounds each through them. Ammo I’ve used has been 90% my own reloads, (mostly Montana Gold and Hornady bulk 55 FMJ’s, with AA2230; and some Sierra 77 SMK’s with Ramshot TAC. Sorry I don’t have the load info here with me but my reloads are a little hotter than 223 but not quite 556) the rest being Federal XM193 and some Wolf. I had FTF’s with XM193 when the gun was really, really dirty…but I had purposely let that gun go over 1,800 rounds without cleaning, only oiling…a lot…when it got sluggish. After a good cleaning it ran fine.
I’ve shot one of them in a Max Joseph/TFTT class last year and the same one in a Trident Concepts class earlier this year. The only issue was when I loaded a muddy mag just to see if it would run. It failed miserably, but in it’s defense, I thought it would as the mag was more mud then magazine. After a few strokes with a chamber brush it ran the rest of the class with no issues.
Both have been sub-MOA out to 300 yards with my reloads.
I don’t like the way the handguard attaches to the barrel nut. (Take into consideration, though, that I don’t know how other free-float rails attach!) The handguards are only attached via six small bolts; and one had all six bolts work their way loose at the same time. Not a big deal to fix but could be a problem in the field.
If I was buying or building a 3-gun rifle right now I’d just bite the bullet and get another JP, or at least a JP trigger & barrel.
For a duty-type gun, I’m starting to collect Colt and LMT.
That is not a bash against JP in any way, their guns are kick-ass and their customer service is awesome.
The trigger is sweet, but if you want a two-stage trigger, or a trigger with some creep to it, stay away. JP triggers break VERY crisp after only the tiniest bit of movement. They take some getting-used-to, and they are definitely love-em or hate-em, there seems to be no middle ground. I love them for competition but wouldn’t have one on a duty gun. I’ve never had a problem, but there are extra parts in there compared to a mil-spec trigger so there’s just more to go wrong.
Sorry to ramble on here, but to make a long post longer…for a competition gun, there’s really no reason to look anywhere else; for a duty gun, though, one of the manufacturers with a longer track record of making duty guns may be a better choice.
