joints (elbows,knees,etc.)

what would be could to take to help strengthen your joints? Something besides a multi purpose vitamin? which i take already. thanks.

People report good success with glucasamine condroitin (Sp). But for best results I would insert a good low impact cardio routine (like rowing) along with good multi-joint weight lifting exercises in which you utilize good form.

Sadly, there’s no medication that will help repair a damaged joint or work to maintain its health.

About all you can do is keep good tone in the muscles that support the joint. Triceps/biceps for elbow, hip flexors for the hips, quadriceps for the knees.

+1 on this. When ever I stop doing my daily excercises my knees will ache much faster than when I keep the muscles around them in shape.

Lots of people benefit from using Glucosamine/Chondroitin tablets. Pick some up from your local health food store or GNC and give it a try. I also recommend using MSM (methylsulfonyl-methane) tablets too.

FYI - for all you dog lovers, this is a must for your animals too! Old dogs with arthritis/hip dysplasia really benefit from the stuff. It’s expensive, but it’s for you best bud, so don’t skimp. My dog really benefited from it during his last few years. The Synovi G3 is good stuff.

Take the Glucosamine/Chondroitin tablets immediately after workout it works best. My friend works with some Olympic athletes in CA and she gives me a lot of great advice and tricks of the trade. Also certain types of stretching will help alleviate pressure on joints. Like if the top of your knee is experiencing discomfort try stretching your quads. A foam roller will help you out a lot, its the best $20 spent. I ran a marathon and was injury free from her advice. I plan to do the 50 Zane Grey run next April in AZ.

Double blind studies on humans show no beneficial effect of G/C. OTOH - I have seen it work on critters - and there is no placebo effect there like in people. Some researchers are also concerned about a possible link between glucosamine and type II diabetes mellitus, as well.

The diabetes link is tenuous, but the prospective, randomized, double-blind studies showing that G/CS does nothing in humans are pretty compelling.

But the placebo effect can be very powerful.

I fully agree with the study, it will not REDUCE PAIN in joints. but having used it for years, and then stopping a few months back when the study came out I did notice a difference. when taking a quality tablet or chewable I feel as if I am a well oiled machine, when I stopped taking it I noticed a little more discomfort. the only supplements I take is a multi-v, glucosaomine, glutamine, and protien powders for recovery. for $10-30 is cheap insurance to help me from any more joint destruction. Only when I am retired will I truly be able to say if it worked or not.
