I say go for it, join the Corps, go 0300. If they dont straighten your ass out ,they will sure as hell kick it.

do it.it was the best thing I have done in my life and am talking with my old NG unit that just re-classed from tankers to MP.and trying to get back in shape,to get back in before the age cut off.and am 40 if I can do it so can you.Good luck

I was a little out of sorts last night when I posted that question.

I want to serve. I’m sick of just being me for me, I’d rather be me for something else.

Life gets in the way. I was comfortable in a relationship, I was comfortable in my job. I’m good at what I do, but it doesn’t change the fact that it is a dead-end job. It isn’t a career. I’m sick of just doing the same bullshit every day.

I don’t have the answers. Sometimes I’d rather just be locked out of my own stupid head, and be told what to do and where to go.

I have always looked up to soldiers. Always. To me, they are larger than life. I don’t want to be a hero, that isn’t my goal. I want to be one of the faceless hundreds, do my damn job, and gain some skills and perspective along the way. I’m basically just sick of where I am in life.

I moved 1400 miles from my friends and family, to try and gain perspective. But I ended up in the same damn situation that I was in when I left. The only difference being that now I’m “alone” and can’t fall back to my old habits. So I’m stuck here, wanting to do something constructive, and not knowing how to go about doing that. That’s what I mean by being a “shitbag.” I know I’m a good person. I don’t do drugs, I don’t hate people, I maybe drink once a week. I do smoke far too much, but I have changed that before. I’m just stuck.

I figured asking here, maybe posting a little more about myself, would at least get my thoughts on paper. There are so many of you here that faced the same decision X amount of years ago.

First off it is commendable that you are considering joining the military. There are a few things that you need to be aware of though. You expressed some distress and distaste over doing the same things day end and day out. I’m in th eArmy and we spend quite a bit of time doing the same things day end and day out. The monotony is tortous unless you learn to see the big picture. You also stated that you are tired of being away from home. Well the military will give you a healthy dose of being away from freinds and family. The good news is that you will not be alone as you will be surround by many like minded )hopefully highly motivateed and hard charging) individuals that will constitute your unit. You will definitely get to do something constructive. You will get the chance to experience trials and tribulations that the average civilian cannot fathom. You will meet people that you love and people that you hate and discover that you are willing to sacrifice everything just to make sure that they are okay. Remember that joining the military is not a change of jobs or scenery. It is a change of lifestyles that will have a profound effect on you for the rest of your life. Your challenge will be to make the effect a positive one.

P.S. There is no such thing as a faceless soldier. Once you are in the service, all servicemembers become your brothers and sisters. Good luck with your decision and God Speed!!
