The weight kills it for me. That heavy sucker dragging my pants down all day long was a royal PITA.
Interesting. Personally, if I’m carrying a 1911 as opposed to a Glock or other similar auto, it will always be a full sized.
I find it hard to take what’s supposedly an objective article seriously when it’s on the page of a company that sells a whole lot of the product that the article is pushing.
Objective? Read more like a subjective blog to me. The whole introduction is personalized. The 2nd paragraph end with, “at least for me” and he even throws in his current home state of Arizona.
What’s not to take seriously? A major 1911 manufacturer published a blog article on their website by a person who carries a full size 1911 on why he carries a full size 1911. I think that makes it about as subjective as it could be.

Well, it’s a little bit of marketing. I probably wouldn’t have read it if it wasn’t someone like John Harrison, Stan Chen, Jason Burton, Steve Morrison kinda person. It didn’t tell me much I didn’t know, but, well, it’s not a bad drumbeat either. I carry either a glock or one of a couple of 1911s.
While I dislike the capacity, the 1911 is probably my favorite carry gun. The gun just fits my body size and style. I’ve owned several, and I will probably always own a 1911, and work it into my carry rotation. Just gotta remember to carry a couple spare magazines along with it.
Yeah, that’s kinda part of it for me. When I’m too lazy to gear up with a couple of spares on hip, it’s usually the Glock.
I carried a full size Wilson CQB for several years both and off duty. Even for a skinny guy (5’9", 155lbs) I never had an issue with the weight or size. The slimness and shape of the gun just seemed to fit by body well.
Like WillBrink, I CCW’d a 5" gov’t model for 22years before I made the switch to an M&P. Never had any issues.
We all know a good 1911 is a special and magic piece of steel. It’s art and function and gives warm and fuzzies as no handgun can, but it’s day as the preeminent combat handgun has seemingly past. When people such as Hilton Yam, who was a top tier 1911 smith and expert on all things 1911, came to that conclusion, it’s time to re consider. That’s not even the tip of the iceberg of teams and people who were die hard 1911 shooters who came to that same conclusion.

There’s always an alloy frame Gov’t Size 1911 like Colt and Springfield make. Rock River might even get their polymer frame full size 1911 on the market one day.
I don’t wear wear wimpy leather belts:p
I use Wilderness belts with the internal stiffener. No leather can hang with a heavy duty riggers belt. U
Yep. I CC’d the 1911 full size for years too. A lighter, better capacity, and more reliable pistol eventually made sense… even with my thick skull. 
I carry a full size 1911 often during the winter months when I wear enough clothing to conceal it. I believe it is a fine weapon.
If I can’t get my dumb ass out of a jam with 15 rounds nothing will.
Never had an issue with carrying a Gov’t Model. It conceals well and while it’s heavy once you load up a GLOCK 17 it’s not much difference in weight, actually. Carry two mags to counter the weight and it’s fine. Some I know carry three just to counter the mass - and back issues.
If your 1911 is well-sorted you’re good to go.

I still think the 1911 is the easiest platform to shoot well. But I agree, kind of a PITA for concealed carry. Of course, I think ALL autoloaders are and I like J-frames. So I will give up a lot for portability.
I love my 1911s. They are a dream to shoot. They look fantastic and the more I get to know them, the more I love them. I never thought I’d say this, but the Government sized 1911’s weight can be a little too much sometimes, especially in the summer, where I am running around and much more active.
I am actually looking into a aluminum, commander sized 9mm. GASP. I never thought I’d say that. As much as I want to go back to Glock 19, I’m afraid I’ve been spoiled by the ergo’s, trigger, and slender/sexyness of the 1911. 15 rounds of 124g can get heavy too.
