I brought this up in the Lucky Gunner 40,000 round test thread and it didn’t really get any response so I figured I might ask in a specified forum. Everything I read about IWC flashlight mounts is good, yet during the test they indicated that they were unable to use the mounts. Has anyone had similar trouble? I was really hoping these were good to go since I want to mount a light and don’t have the money, or honestly probably the need (don’t tell my wife) for a rail.
Do you have a link, or quote, to what you are referring? In what way did the mounts not work? Without reading through that thread, this question is a bit too vague for any helpful answers I fear.
Maybe I’m just lazy though:eek:
I have an IWC on my MOE handguard, and two IWC/Haley Thorntails. They are very solid and well made. As asked, can you link the specific issue?
“The use of Magpul MOE furniture enabled the attachment of sling mounting points and flashlight mounts from Impact Weapons Components designed for the MOE stocks and handguards. The sling mounting points and flashlight mounts remained attached to the firearms without issue throughout the entire test; however, flashlights of the correct diameter installed in the mounts in accordance with provided instructions did not stay in the mounts. Excessive tightening of the mounts’ tension screw did not fix the problem, and the flashlights were set aside for the duration of the testing.”

They really don’t say anything more, which is what left me wondering if anyone else has experienced such a problem.
I have the original TMC mount on my 6920 that has the earlier MOE handguard with the flat surface on top with five vent holes. The earlier TMC mounts incorporated a “pincer” type clamp gripping the flashlight body. Here’s a previous thread showing the mount at post #17.

I use the Surefire G2 LED Nitrolon flashlights on both of my carbines. No matter how hard I tightened the clamp screw and using “Locktite” the light would shift a little after going through a couple of 30 round mags. The easiest/cheap solution was to wrap a small piece of friction tape around the light body in the area that was clamped. Over 1500 rounds later, no movement.
I have the SMC mount on my BCM which has the latest MOE handguard that has a rounded top surface with four vent holes. The ring style clamp comes in three sizes depending on which light you use according to the IWC website. The 1.030 ring clamps my G2 light securely. In over 1000 rounds, no movement. I also use the same combination on my Magpul MOE forend on an 870 shotgun. Over 300 rounds of low recoil 00 buckshot, no movement.
The LuckyGunner article didn’t mention what size clamp ring or what brand/model light was used in their tests. There could have been a mismatch between the two that might account for them having a problem with the mounts. Earl Pittman @ IWC is the go to guy if you have any concerns or questions about their products. He’s good to go in my book.
I have one and have the large 1.03" ring with a streamlight polytech which they say to use the medium 1.0" ring. Nothing a little electrical tape couldnt snug up. The IWC stuff is GTG IMO.
Good deal, thanks. I have a Surefire light I carry on duty that has electrical tape on it to make it fit in a blackhawk holder so I’m already down with wrapping lights in electrical tape if its necessary.
