Dunno…My friends are avid 22lr fans yet I’ve never once fired one.
I don’t see the point

Not missing anything other than the price of ammo.
.22’s are a LOT of fun. I like them all, pistols, long guns, semiautomatic, lever action, etc.
I begin and end every shooting session with a .22, usually a Glock 44. If shooting rifle drills, either an AR with a CMMG conversion bolt or, if just a fun range day, my 10/22 or my Henry.
And .22’s are the best way to introduce new shooters to firearms.

I don’t see the point in making a point about not having fired one. There isn’t a point, at least not the sort of point someone makes a point of looking for.
It certainly isn’t in the league of fat girls and scooters, and you don’t have to call your dad and tell him your gay…it’s just a small cartridge. It has uses, but that doesn’t mean you have any of them.
I really enjoy .22, but only in a nice bolt action rifle. Preferably with iron sights while I still can.

You haven’t lived until you shoot / hunt with an accurate suppressed 22…being able to snipe quail in the noggin at 50yds is freak’n joy that goes to the dinner table better than a scatter gun.
I shot competitive RF back in the 90’s and with the right hummer bbl & a tuner, the RF was every bit as accurate / tight at 50yds that the 6ppc could do at 100.
Winchester made some of the best…the 52, 61, 62 & 63 are legend. I’m also fortunate to own a couple 40x repeaters & KoO 82 custom match’s. Yes, I’m a 22 snob.
…Okay
I’m glad you’re now grown.
I didn’t want to call CPS on your Parents for not gifting you a.22. You do know not owning and shooting a .22 is a crime in Texas. Right?
You have missed out
Cheap to shoot, fun to shoot, good practice, good to teach new shooters with. Why the hell don’t you have a .22?
Shooting bullseye .22 pistol, and position .22 rifle (think Anschutz etc) is tremendously good training. If you can shoot small bore at a high level then that means you have perfected basics of marksmanship especially follow through since a low velocity bullet needing to clear a 25” bbl is really unforgiving if your position and NPA suck.
I’ve rarely seen a shooter who could shoot small bore precision games not be able to shoot center fire at a very high level, but I’ve seen the reverse not be the case.
Plus small bore is cheap ammo, doesn’t beat you up, and it’s just fun.
Your loss bud.
Jeez, I have killed a LOT of critters with a 22 lr. Not to mention starting a handful of folks shooting or shooting handguns with one. I cannot imagine a day I don’t own a 22.
Andy
Start a thread about being four shots in on crappy rum. Then 23 minutes later posts about never shooting a .22lr.
All my .22s are for recreation. If the only place I had to shoot was a crowded indoor range shooting at paper I wouldn’t own any. Fortunately, I have a fantastic outdoor club.
Calm weekday morning… have the entire club myself. Set up at 300yds. Squeeze trigger… pfff… wait… wait… wait… ‘tink’. ahhhh. Love it.

:laugh::laugh: Exactly
There is no point to playing golf, hit ball into hole, then repeat 18x; no point in fishing and throwing fish back, no point in tennis, I hit the ball to you you hit the ball back, monotonous. Why run jog or bicycle? just drive.
What’s the point of 17hmr? .32? 6.5creedmoor(stupid name)?
22LR are are phuckton of fun for many !

After diving in to the world of high end pellet pcps, I haven’t touched my .22s in a while. Easier to suppress, cheaper than powder burning ammo, I hand pump so air is on tap where ever I go. They can be stupid accurate and the ammo is easy to stock up on. My main squirrel hunting rigs are FX Dreamline Compact, Taipan Veteran Standard and RTI Prophet.
Being well into my 60s now, it’s hard to remember a time when I wasn’t shooting. 22lr. I can’t imagine not having one on hand.
Some of my best memories are of taking my son to the range and hunting lease when he was a small boy. A Ruger 1022 and brick or ammo made for a fun day. That 1022 was the foundation for firearm safety, marksmanship skill, hunting and father/son bonding. He has a brand new daughter and I hope he starts her on the same path.
Now that my son is grown we still enjoy our .22s together. Have you seen those targets that are like playing a game of “Battleship”? It’s a ball at 50 yards!
Stay safe

Yes Sir, those are the experiences you can’t put a value on. Awhile back I had the honor of watching my two oldest grandsons have a blast firing their first shots with my old Winchester 62. I also got to preside over them catching their first fish. I wouldn’t trade that for anything.
What do you shoot small critters with, especially in your yard?
That is a great purpose for .22LR, as are steel challenge match’s and don’t discount just cheap fun for practicing trigger control and teaching the kids to shoot.
