I’ve been in the market for a sling, and I’ve had my eye on the MS2. I was just about to buy it when I started hearing rumors of the MS3. So I started waiting.
And I’m still waiting. So I’ll ask the hivemind. Would it be worth the wait for Magpul made buckles, or should I just ask the nice boys at bravocompanyusa.com for a FDE one this afternoon? If it’s worth the wait, when do you think it’ll be out? (when it’s done, I know, but still.)
If you’re definitely going to buy an MS3, then buy something different now (like a VTAC or something). In my opinion, the MS2 leaves a lot to be desired as a 2-point sling. Can’t hurt to have a good 2-point and a good 1-point.
If you’ve already got a decent sling, then wait. Because if you buy an MS2 now, you’ll just end up getting an MS3 later and then you’ll just feel like an idiot who has 2 nearly identical slings.
All that stuff is made of is just rock climbing flat rope. You can go to REI and buy a hundred feet for a few dollars. The only thing I dont like about the material is unless I’m wearing a collared shirt the side of the flat rope chafe my neck after a little while. No complaints with the hardware…
However the MS2 is the only sling I use now on a regular basis. Since all I do is shoot on the range anymore long distance carry is not really something I look for. I ditched all but 2 of my 2 point slings. Mixed with the ASAP plate its a great setup.
If I were still active duty Id opt for a 2 PT just because that f-ing weapon would be on me 24/7, and a 2 PT is much better for comfort.
I don’t know much about nylon etc. Below is a quote from a fellow shooter with whom I recently took a class under pretty decent snowfall:
"Sling; I was running the Magpul MS2. I tried it in single point mode and it’s not for me. So I went back to it in a two point status. The biggest issue I had with the sling was when it got wet because of the rain and then snow. The webbing on the MS2 is tubular type webbing. When it got wet it rolled, badly. So bad it wasn’t flat anymore, it was rope. It also rolled in the buckle. It appears the buckle is a bit big for the webbing. I dealt with it and didn’t change it out; like I said I was determined to run the carbine with no changes…
I have MS2 on one of my carbines and I’ve not had any issues with it; I have not run it in wet weather though. Having said that, my preferred sling is 2-point Vickers’.
Its called tubular webbing, and no, you aren’t buying a hundred feet for a few dollars. Flat webbing and tubular webbing are two very different things.
