I seriously never, ever, ever thought I would ever be on a crotch rocket.
I hated them for years. Riding while bent over, no storage, wwaaayyy too fast. (I did 0-122 in around 10 seconds)
But I love it. I got the tail bag and it holds just enough to make it practical but not too big where it looks ridiculous.
The reason I’m making this thread though is that I really don’t like being “Exposed” like you are on a motorcycle at a redlight. You can’t see too well behind you (I’m constantly checking my mirrors) and gloves make it difficult to have good dexterity.
I keep a S&W642 in my jacket pocket but it would be difficult to get in a situation. (I practice religiously, but it requires me grabbing a zipper in gloves - almost impossible).
I’d like to carry my G26 in my waistband, but even with a jacket since my body is bent over it would be exposed.
You guys got any thoughts? Unfortunately “punks” just gravitate to bikes like this and I want to do anything I can to protect myself.
I have yet to own a sport bike(its funner in the dirt!), but grabbing a handfull sounds pretty good to me for a gtfo plan. Going for guns makes you a sitting duck till you can reholster and grab 1st.
Magnetic tank bag. Mine doesn’t have velcro, rather two zippers that are connected by a strap for gloved, one handed opening. I sold my bike, so I dont really need this bag anymore… PM incoming.
Get some small nylon rope (yarn or smaller size.) Tie a bull knot through your jacket or tank bag zipper and trim to length, burn ends and now you have more to grab.
I picked up a roll of black with orange specks. Doesn’t look too bad. Just replace it every 6 months or so, UV light will tear it up.
Sometimes shoulder holsters work best for drivers and bike riders, but it’s very much a personal preference thing. The biggest threat is the bike itself and all the overcrowded roads FULL of people who are either talking or texting and paying no attention to the task of driving. My brother was almost killed last year by one of those idiots who pulled right out in front of him because they weren’t paying attention.
I wish you all the best and hope you have nothing but great times and safety riding the bike. Please be careful, but most of all be lucky!
