I am looking for an older Ithaca 37 Riot gun. I cannot find one and I see they are making them again. The reason I am looking for an older one is of course the slam-fire capability. I wonder if the parts are interchangeable, say a trigger module of the older version on a new production gun, nad would this make it “good”?
Xaviar, not all of the older model 37s worked that way. I’ve had M37s that did while others did not, all were early versions. I’ll have to dig mine out of the safe and check it out.
Of the older guns, most were slam-fire, but like JOHNO mentioned, I too have seen older guns that will not slam-fire. I have a Model 87 that came with non slam-firing parts, I bought a complete trigger pack from an old(er) Model 37 with the correct slam-firing parts and it went right in and works just fine. I do not know if those older slam-firing parts (IIRC its just the hammer and slide release) will fit into an new, Ohio built Ithacas. With that said, old Ithacas can be found at very inexpensive prices, I’ve found a few ($111 for one) and don’t know if I’d buy a new one. The Ithaca Model 37 is a great design, just about bomb proof, but there’s less than a handful of aftermarket cool-guy parts for them.
iirc, Ithaca offered guns with fire disconnects for law enforcement while their standard gun would still slamfire. A lot of the older short barrel guns you’ll see around were LE guns at one time.
I’m not sure on parts interchangeability, but I am sure that you are more than OK with the 4 shot mag tube version you have now.
I’m actually taking the mag extension off the 870P.
I feel the same way. I’ve seen too many issues with them.
